have a problem converting .mov to avi file

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

ok, i am having trouble converting a quicktime .mov file to avi. I have tried the mov2avi program and the message it gives is this "program error integer divide by zero". Whatever that means. And for some reason even though i have it set to do it, Windows media player will not read this quicktime file either. The Quicktime 4. something i have plays it with no problems. And yes, the panasonic encoder cant open the file either (some .movs it could). I then tried a screen capture program but this made the movie play way to slow. Can anyone help me out?? thanks

Your Quicktime movie is in QT4 format. Only QT4 can open it (as far as I know). Just open it with QT4 and click File> Export and save it as AVI. Make sure you set the options to the highest quality AVI possible. When you Export it to AVI, you are going to get an extremely large AVI (I once had a 2MB QT4 and got an AVI of nearly 600MB!). Encode the AVI with Panasonic and you should be done. The AVIs and MPEGs made from the Quicktime movies always work better than the original Quicktime version, but that is due to QT4's high system requirements.

Ian, thanks for the info. The only problem is their is no "file export' so i cant save it to anything. maybe it was in an older version???

nevermind i found that when you register the program, thats when it gives you the extra choices (such as save) thanks again

Adobe Premier seems to work fine (for me) converting .mov's to avi's. Tried to use some of the other coverters, but non seemed to work, various errors.Just open the .mov in Premier, and then export as .avi, and choose the appropraite settings.

I have had some aggravation with this convert to [avi] from [mov] - this is what I have so far:

Mac is seeming to save to some quicktime format windows doesn't like [vid compression set to none - premiere 5 on mac], even with premiere6 on the PC. I am trying different combinations, I'll try to get back to this board on what I come up with.

Target result: looking for a way to transfer current quicktime mov from a mac to pc. mov2avi hasn't done the trick - ['no suitable' crap]. be right back.
