CP990 Movie Files

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hi There,

Does anyone know if the new Nikon Coolpix 990 plays back it's movie files via the TFT screen, or do you have to download (or is it upload?) to your computer to play the sequence?

Thanks,

it will playback the movies... but it is the most inefficient playback ever invented... somehow it copies the file over from card to buffer before playing... so it takes like half a minute or more before it starts playing...

I'm guessing that it's copied to buffer memory first because the buffer memory is faster than the removable storage. Either that or the processor isn't fast enough to extract and process it real time, so they do it while dumping it to the buffer and then just read it out while playing it back? You'd think it would be fast enough?

Anybody with a better guess?
