It's the last minute of the Euro 2000 Final. Phillips must score!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

There you are, watching Holland v England in the final of Euro 2000. It's 0-0 in the 3rd minute of injury time and Michelle Phillips of Sunderland (and the Mamas and the Papas seemingly) is closing in on the Dutch goal.

Do you (a) Leap out of your seat shouting "Go on son!"

or (b) Scream "No not that Mackem B.....D!" because you know that the Mackems will go on about it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow but soon and for the rest of your life!!!!!!!!

I'm afraif I can't get excited when anyone other than one of ours scores. In fact, I went as far as to claim Paul Scholes's goal didn't count last year.

I never shout for London teams.

Sorry SMB I don't give a damn aboot England, however, I'm anti all things S@nd*rLand. If RATBOY were to trip over his laces I would be so happy.
Anyway, I was fighting like a six year old in the boozer the other night with two makems - canny lads really - about S@nd*rLand's involvement in the World Cup. I don't think S@nd*rLand have ever in history had a player play in the World Cup whist playing for S@nd*rLand, I'm I right?

If I were supporting England it's have to be (a).... go on son!!!

We complain when people don't support Shearer in an England shirt so it'd be very hypocritical to shout down a mackem.

At the risk of being hung! I would be on my feet screaming at the television!!!!!!! Sorry, can`t help it, I`m passionate about National Football too! (:o)

Sorry folks but it's dead simple.

My NATIONAL Team is NEWCASTLE UNITED. But while Maboy is still Captain of Ingerland, I always want them to do well - so I guess the answer is....oh hell ! What a choice !

Fraid I'm with Geordie on this. The Mags way, way first, England a close next, the rest of the football world absolutely nowhere. But we can't expect support for AS as an England player, and at the same time deny it to philips as an England player.

Back in his barber pole get-up, wish him all the ill in the world, but when (if ever again) he plays for England, in the given circumstances, definitely "Go on son".

Hearing the mackems(ptuh) crowing about it I'd liken to the effect on Nelson, of pigeons crapping on the pedestal of the column. Actions, not words - if there's any justice in the world, they'll be back where they belong in no time. Let the sad b******s enjoy their few moments in the dim, watery sunshine that's shining on them now.

Personally I would rather have him felled in the box with our boy scoring from the resultant penalty. Simple really, or have the makems shot saved with AS scoring on the rebound. It would have to be a "go on son.................give it to Shearer"

The little sheister hasn't been picked yet, so hopefully the situation won't arise.
The Munchkin is just one of several who will be deemed "not good enough" after just a few games when Big Al retires.
In the unlikely event the little git is (A)picked for the squad, and (B) get's onto the field, then I'm afraid it has to be "go on, son" - I would love England to succeed almost as much as the Toon, but not quite as much.

Ho hum.

I honestly expected to be on my own here, but it appears that many of you are thinking along similar lines to moi. In an England shirt, I would support anybody. In a R&W shirt, I'll abuse the little b@st@rd everytime. Remember who will be England skipper in Euro 2000. I'm sure we'd all love it if he lifted the trophy. ut even if it was Steve Bould wearing the captain's armband (ho ho), I'd want England to win.
