Softie - Corinthian League Query

I'm nothing if not quick off the draw - we're only (!) 13 games into the new League, and it's just occurred to me that I've no idea how you come up with the 3-1 (or whatever) scorelines from the points allocated to players in our squads. I'm sure there's some extremely scientific explanation and all that. Anything that a bear of little brain like me would understand ??

I know I'm going to be brought infont of the F.A. for "Taggartliness" but how did Borussia Canwehaveourballbach win 4 of their first 5 games but since have won only 1 of the next 8? Can't you see I'm under pressure!?

It's not terribly scientific I'm afraid. I calculate the average points scored in the division and consider there or thereabouts to be 1 goal (it's actually quite unusual to not score at all unless your manager's name begins with 'K' and ends with 'enny Dalglish').

If you score more points than your opponent you win, so if the average was 11 and JHP get 12 and PPP get 13, it'll probably be 2-1 to PPP. Sometimes, however, people score 2 when the average is 12 and they simply add goals to the opposition's tally which would be like us beating Wednesday 8-0 without playing particularly well. If both teams score ridiculously low I give the higher scorer a 1-0 win, as otherwise the 'Goals For' column would do them good in the League table that a poor performance doesn't warrant.

To be honest, it's the least satisfying aspect of the competition, but I'm loath to say, 'All scores from 11-14 get 1 goal' as it will take some of the sting out of it. I might follow the clamouring of Jonno and Dr Bill for Home Advantage whereby the home side automatically get 2 points (an extra man) which should sway the results in favour of Home sides. Won't bring it in now though.

Other than the head scratching, does the game meet your approval?

Softie,
I hate the bliddy thing :-)) cos, as usual, I was 'too slow to catch cold' (as me owld gran used to say), and didn't think of putting me name down till it was too late.

Wouldn't mind seeing the rules and regs so I can be fully up to speed for the start of next season though, cos at my age it'll take that long to twig what's going on.

Well, seeing as how you're a poor awld b*gger :-), in the categories section you will find bbs Premier Corinthian League. A thread in there is entitled 'Sign up here for new season of BBSPCL'; the rules are in the first posting.

Interestingly enough, I see that I should have awarded Srnicek two extra points for keeping a clean sheet yesterday whereas I only gave him 1...I can hear the outcry already. Have to put it all down to Uruah Rennie and David Elleray officiating at the relevant matches [creeps away to hide inside a dark room until the angry mob disperses].

Would the Racers still have won with that error corrected? ... How did it alter the 'owdon 'arriers result??? We need to know!

[muffled]I'm not coming out, so go away!

Actually, I shall add the point to the spreadsheet at home and see if it makes any difference...these things can be 'evened out' over a season...

Hey.... I'm not complaining.... my ex team won! I may not be the manager any longer but I still support the lads :))

Cheers for that, O married one. I think I sort of understand now, though it's really of no consequence while JHP continues to rocket up the table ..... ! Keep up the excellent work. I'm enjoying my first full season of management. Not so difficult after all, is it lads 'n lasses ?

By my reckoning it's New Year in the League - lots of team-building presents to be handed out and drunken injuries to be sustained...it's only just beginning to get 'interesting' ;-)
