Computer DVD Players and Hollywood+

Here is a bit of information which maybe of interest:

I recently installed the Pioneer DVD 104S Player in my computer as part of an update that also included the Hollywood Plus decoder card and I had never actually played a DVD with it. In the installation I set it for Region 4 in which Australia is listed.

I hired some DVD's the other night and the computer totally rejected them. Said the region was wrong. I got out my Philips DVD player manual and in the fine print it is actually set for Region 3 - GeZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. I found a Patch for the Pioneer 104S that actually made it Region free but..... unbelievable that Australia uses Region 3 DVD's!

The image on the computer via the Hollywood+ card is mind blowing compared to what we can get with even DV camera source material, funny how that does not project into the TV area quite as much. DV source material played in SVHS is only a notch lower in image standard - interesting!
