photosensitive polyester film.......

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

While recently researching photo printers, I found a printer (Amedia)that uses photosensitive polyester film catridges. Any feedback on this?

Also, it seems that dye-sub printers give the best photographic quality at the moment. Any comments would be appreciated. (I really don't mind being limited in paper size with the more affordable dye-subs.)

Thanks! C.Ripley

The specifications aren't really very impressive - and the proprietary nature of the supplies make it an item I would personally avoid. For the curious you can see the site at:

Amedia

There is another model - the 9000. I don't see any significant difference. They also seem a bit behind the times with only a mention of Windows 95...
This is a little too far off the beaten path for my tastes.

I don't think finding supplies for the Amedia device will be a problem, at least not as long as they make Polaroid instant cameras... ;-)

It looks an awful lot like the instant film cartridge "printer" that Polaroid sells. The styling looks different from what I remember, but I'll give odds on it being the same process with the same cartridge which "doesn't require separate inks or paper..." :-) Basically they use light (UV, or LEDs as I recall?) to expose the polaroid "film" and you get a print similar in quality(?) to a regular polaroid.
