I have a chance to shoot coverage, interviews, etc., at the Cannes Film Festival next week.

Only problem is that my only competition has a Beta SP package.

I have a mini-DV Steaicam package (Sony TRV 900).

The final broadcast outlet is the Net and, hopefully, broadcast TV.

How can I concince them that the mini-DV package is just as good, if not better, than the Beta SP package? I'm thinking that it's cheaper, more unobtrusive, and more mobile.

Any studies or articles that can help?

Your mini-DV package isn't as good because your camera doesn't compare to the pricey lenses that your competitor's Beta SP package has. The TRV900 is only a 1-chip camera and isn't as good as 3-chip mini-DV cameras. If you had a nice 3-chip camera then your package might be better than Beta SP. The DV format is better than betaSP to begin with... check out Adam Wilt's DV FAQ for more info on that.

Since the Beta SP is handsdown better quality, sell yourself in other ways aside from your equipment. Let them know if your experience, technique, how the quality you're going to capture is good for the Net, etc.
