Don't split the forum, rotate the sysop duties.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

Let a new sysop be chosen regularly. Let the ones who want to do it sign up and take their turns in order of sign up. If there are many who want to do this, change sysop every day. Let those who complain about a sysop decision be forced to do it for a whole week.

Good morning Helen-- I have been thinking of compromises or adjustments also.

Some deletions are undoubtedly necessary. If a thread could be marked at the spot the deletion occurred AND the deletions stored permanently in a "deleted Posts" area so that we knew what was going on and could read the deletions if we wanted to, there might be fewer concerns.

Putting one's trust in someone else's judgement as to what should be seen and read is difficult.

I saw Diane's forum being spammed today. No question in my mind that it is in direct result of having the url posted here, AND the subsequent deletion of that url. I dont know if this was the result the original poster was looking for, I think they were just pointing it out, but the result is the result nontheless. Just pointing out.

Hello Kritter-- Was that URL to the Sustainable Living forum? If so, what would be the harm in posting that?

-- Pam (jpjgood@penn.com), May 03, 2000.

Helen, rotating moderators would agravate the situation exponentially IMO. As Pam said, it's difficult to trust the judgement of one person, imagine having to adjust to 10 or 20.

Kritter, I doubt the original poster's intention were purely informational. Why else chosing "pssst! look quick!" for subject and "(I Told @ on .you)" as a handle? Suggests mischeif to me.

Psssst! Look quick!

I said that because I KNEW it would be deleted.

opps, that should say:

-- (I Told @ on .you!), May 03, 2000.

I agree with Pam on this one. More moderators doesn't solve ANYTHING. I feel free to check out the deleted posts forum because I feel secure that Old Regular puts the stuff there. You must realize that the moderators on TB2000 didn't do this. The only posts put there were ones that had been cached by others and put there by others. This is an extra effort on the part of Old Regular in an attempt to keep reasonable discourse flowing.

It's a volunteer job, folks. It's very easy to fire the volunteer and get a new one, but when the old one was basically reliable and the new ones lose interest, are you going to go back to the original and expect their return?

Anita, take a trip to the deleted posts thread. Please locate the posts from Retard that were deleted from capnfun's thread. Please locate the posts from "Psst look quick" thread that were deleted. Please locate the thread LL says she had deleted yesterday. If you are unable to locate any of these, please tell us what other threads/posts have been deleted and NOT moved to the deleted posts thread. Thank you.

I disagree, Anita's grip is so strong I think it's what glues this place together.

Anyhow, yours appears on shaky grounds at the moment. As far as I know, there were no deleted posts on the "pssst look" thread, but only disabled links. And looking over at the deleted thread, "needling@but.happy"'s deleted post is there. I assume that's the same poster as retard@but.happy. And OTFR told us that several more of the same posts from same poster were deleted.

I told you so said " i posted that link to show it would be deleted"

BS!!! Just how dumb do you think All of us are buttmunch?

You had a motive other than that. Get Real, Get Honest, and THEN grab the coffee, its YOUR turn to have coffee duty with your whine and resentment.

FWIW, sysop rotation is not IMHO a valid option, for what I remember that is what took other board down, too many chiefs and no indians.

Helen, although it would give Flint more time to 'not' spend with his already too lonely wife, he has already admitted he would not be interested.

How bout it Ken, you interested? Not that it matters...****snick***

"I said that because I KNEW it would be deleted."

You're making my point nicely. If you knew it would be deleted, you had to know you were doing something wrong in OTFR's view. That is mischief.

This is pretty much the same argument that was going on when the original TB thread split. It doesn't matter who makes what rules, someone is going to push the limits and someone will complain. Someone will take an action that someone else doesn't like. Someone will leave, someone will stay...this is part of human interaction and it won't change.

It doesn't matter WHO is sysop. It doesn't matter WHAT action the sysop takes. This is the result.
