There are cabins available at the U.S. Chumps which should fill up fairly quickly. Is OK interested in getting a cabin. Sounds like a job for one of the club officer's to me.

For what it's worth, I might be interested in sharing a cabin.

Word on the street is Mary might be looking into a cabin. That's at least what some guy said who knows this other guy who saw it on an internet chat group. Of course it is just a rumor. It might ultimately be best if Snorkel were put in charge of this operation...

I think cabins are a great idea. An even better idea: the person who discovered these cabins should continue to handle all the arrangements. Thanks Dan!

Daniel Boone? How long have the cabins been there? I would think the person who "discovered" them would be the same person who built them. I'm not quite sure what you mean here.

Ahhhhhh.. I remember the days when our club president took the initiative and would have jumped at the opportunity to book a non- smoking cabin at the first opportunity, but then I think it was Spike who said "Why are you doing this, shouldn't you be concentrating all your efforts on making OK fleece pullovers and isn't it kind of a pain to have all these people pay you back?" To which Mary replied "Yeah scrxx ....., I need only be a figure head."

Limited housing will be available at the Pocono Environmental Education Center. There is room at PEEC for only 300 people, but since we are expecting approximately 500 people it will be in your best interests to get your application in as early as possible. Accommodations are rustic cabins with no modern amenities such as TV or phone. Each cabin does have electricity and heat and it's own bathroom with shower. Beds are bunk beds with mattresses. Accommodations at PEEC will be available as a weekend package ONLY. The package includes two nights (Friday Nov. 3 and Saturday Nov. 4) and six meals: Friday and Saturday dinner, Saturday and Sunday breakfast and lunch. All meals are self-serve cafeteria style. Arrangements will be made for early breakfasts for those with early start times and box lunches can be requested.

No single night accommodations, lodging without meals or meals without lodging are available.

There are large and x-large cabins available. Large cabins hold 6-8 people and x-large hold 9 or more. The price is $89 per person for the weekend for space in a large cabin and $84 per person for the weekend for space in an x-large cabin. There is a $10 charge to rent linens for the weekend which includes a pillow, blanket, two sheets, pillowcase and two towels.

You may reserve an entire cabin if you have a large enough group. To reserve an entire large cabin, your group must have at least 6 members and to reserve an x-large cabin your group must have at least 9.

It really sounds like Snorkel has taken the lead in arranging accomodations at the US Chumps!

I will reserve us an x-large cabin if people think that is a good idea.

Before anyone gets too excited, I think it is time we took a careful look at just what the Pocono E.E. Center is all about... In other words, what is top-of-the-line in DVOAland...

The "cabins" are really little more than shelters built with a wood frame with sheetmetal roof and sides. The bunks might be best described as having been German-engineered in 1930's style. They are hard wooden benches, at least the ones that aren't rotting with decay. The floors are dirt and the gap between the walls and ground is sufficient to allow small streams to form and wash over the floor when it rains. There is no electricity, although there is a central pit latrine available for all of the cabins (alright, to be fair there really is more than one latrine, it's a two-seater). I don't think it's necessary to mention the rats, not at this juncture anyway.

Meals? Oh yes, the "meals" served in the "cafeteria". I forgot about that. How could I have forgotten? Breakfast (Wonderbread, jam, peanut butter), lunch (Wonderbread, jam, peanut butter, Kraft single slices, Bologna), and for dinner (Wonderbread, jam, peanut butter, canned corn, peaches in corn syrup, Uncle Ben's mashed potatoes, and on Sunday, freshly-baked tater tots for the first 10 in the door!). But don't pick up that fork before the obligatory communal prayer! People have been kicked out for such sins! I don't think it's necessary to mention the obese, sweaty, polyester-clad serving ladies, not at this juncture anyway.

The cabins are heated and have electricity and showers. They are bunk bed style beds and meals are included with the package. Swampfox says he is in and I am in. If I can get commitments from at least 8 people I will order an extra large cabin. Parking at the PEEC will only be for people who are staying there, all others will have to park along some road and be shuttled in. Who else is in? If you need more info please look at the event website.

Mike and Mary are in. Who will be next? 4 more to go.

-- Snorkel (daniel.meenehan@umb.com), May 10, 2000.

Better commit soon, I lose internet access on Friday.

-- Snorkel (daniel.meenehan@umb.com), May 10, 2000.

At last year's US Champs I stayed in a shared suite, which Nancy Koehler arranged. Everybody there was fine and easy to get along with, so if you want some ideas for a few extra folks to share a cabin with, I can mention the following names: Joe Brautigam (though I imagine he'll be looking for something for his entire family), Bob McBride, JJ, and Nancy.

-- Swampfox (wmikell@earthlink.net), May 12, 2000.

I will book an x-large cabin next week. I will take commitments on a first come first served basis. If JJ wants to be a true OKer, I'm sure he will be in contact.

-- Snorkel (daniel_meenehan@hotmail.com), May 12, 2000.

I just talked to the guy in charge of cabins at the U.S. Champs and he says we should get a cabin ASAP because they are going fast. Only room for 300 people. Anybody not staying in the cabins will have to be bussed in to the event center!!!!!!!!!! The problem is we need money now to reserve a cabin. $89 for a 6 person cabin, $84 for a 9 person cabin. This includes all meals. I need firm commitments now and money. Gene? Fritz? Mark M? Mook? JJ? I already have commitments from Mike, Mary, Me and Mikell. I need 2 more before I can reserve the cabin. The guy sounded like the cabins would be the best deal by far as far as convenience was concerned and he said of all the meets he has been to these are the nicest cabins he has seen.

Mike Shifman, Nancy, and I ARE INTERESTED in sharing a cabin at the US Champs. Keep us advised.

-- Dick Neuburger (rneuburger@worldnet.att.net), June 25, 2000.

I would like to be able to attend and enjoy, but I spent most of my o' days this spring. If needed, however, I will gladly donate to fundage to allow for other OKers to enjoy a cabin...

-- Fritz (fpmenninger@hotmail.com), June 25, 2000.

Fritz, go to the U.S. Champs, it's the only meet this fall.
