Casio QV2000 and Macintosh?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I'm interested in getting the Casio QV2000UX, but I can't figure out whether or not it works with Macintosh; in particular, whether pictures can be downloaded through the USB port. I can't get a straight answer out of Casio, and I can't find definitive information on the web.

Thanks for your help.

If Casio isn't giving you a straight answer I would be weary. If they can't make it work right, who can? I think it's a good camera except for the horrible cheesy ( and I mean Velveeta ) lens cover. Whoever designed that should be fired. I seem to remember reading on the box that it came with Mac drivers but I'd have to double check. Honestly if you have the cash the QV3000 is a way better rig, especially with the microdrive. The whole deal is about $999 and well worth it. 245 pictures at the highest resolution is a godsend, your going to buy more flash cards for the QV2000 before you know it so the price gap closes once you tack the extra media cost on.

Cheesy lens cover? I have opened and closed mine 2000UX lens thousands of times, banged it, dropped it, and carry it in my pocket without the case. No problems. The design is very similar to the Olympus 450Z, except the Casio uses a much stronger metal casting. You also never wind up losing a lens cap.

As for the original question, here is a quote from another board: "The USB software is definitely Mac-compatible. The catch is that you have to pay an extra $10 for Mac software. And yes, it is user-friendly. Just plug in the camera and it pops up as a disk on your desktop."

You can order the MAC software from Casio see http://www.casio.com/accessories/index.cfm? act=0&PID=1699&CFID=272025&CFTOKEN=14476760 .

The lens cover is not a figment of my imagination, the SouthEast product rep for Casio told me in person that they recieved complaints about the lens cover and thats why its not on the QV3000. Also, at our retail store customers already broke 2 of them off our demo models, not well designed, period.
