Information on Sony DSC-570

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I recently saw both the Sony DSC-570 and the Nikon 990 at a local retailer. Their sample 8x10s were both amazingly sharp, but the Sony had superior color (the Nikon had a slightly green tint). The subject was a church, limestone and redbrick, on a sunny or nearly fully sunny day. My impression from other images I've seen on the web suggests that the Nikon doesn't usually have this tint. I dont't know what the whiteness or ambient light source settings were; the external flash should have been immaterial with the sunlight and distance involved. Any comments?

As a general rule I never make a decision based on seeing only one example of a camera - especially at a retail outlet. While I like the prices available at many of these outlets - the people lack the proper training and presentation skills to help one make a truely informed decision. Choosing the right model requires you do some research - and it sounds like you have started properly.
I feel that both cameras you mentioned are excellent. I'm sure you could go to another store somewhere on the planet and find an example that favored the Nikon - the result is as much of a printer technology, Ink and Paper stock example as it is a camera example.

I should be getting our review of the Sony S70 up by Friday PM at the latest. - You'll then be able to do your own comparisons of identical pictures shot with the 990 and S70...
