2000 Engine failure forced emergency landing WANDA SZETOA Cathay Pacific Airbus flying from Taipei to Hong Kong on Sunday night was forced to make an emergency landing after an engine shut down, the airline said yesterday. Almost 200 passengers on board flight CX405 spent four hours in Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan while a replacement jet was sent from Hong Kong.
The cause of the failure of the Trent 700 engine on the twin-engine Airbus was not immediately known, corporate communications manager Diana Fung said. She said the airline had not received any complaints about the delay.
Passengers said they were frightened by the incident, which was explained to them by the captain, but the landing in Kaohsiung had been smooth.
