Defining Grace

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Christian Church : One Thread

Some have stated that the main focus of Grace is for "forgiveness of sins". I believe that is included but that it goes much farther than that.

This would be one instance that GRACE could not mean that: Lu 2:40 And the Child continued to grow and become strong, increasing in wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.

If one held that the Grace of God was only for the forgiveness of sins than one would have to say that the child Jesus sinned. I think those who are looking at grace with such a narrow view should reconsider...

Just a thought,

Grace IS more than forgiveness of sins:

I Corinthians 15:10 "but by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them,, yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me."

Grace is a two sided coin. On the one hand, it our means of coming into relationship with God (forgiveness of sin, etc). On the other, it is how God molds us and shapes us for use in His purposes after we have submitted to Him.

Just a thought ... Why is the prayer said at mealtime called "saying grace"?

There are many different translations of the word grace. It is used in place of the word thanks when we give thanks (Grace) at meal time. However, If we would replace the word Grace, and translate it "Favor" It will probably clear up much misunderstanding. The "Riches of His Grace (Favor) abound toward us each day. This treasure house of Gods grace (Favor") is absolutely fantastic. We would that the whole world would walk in Gods Favor. Through Christ we know what it means to be saved by the Favor of God, which is neither cheap nor free.
