Dons or Bantams ?

Who would you rather joined woeful Watford and witless Wednesday (in all probability) for the drop ?

Personally I'd be delighted with one less trip to the smerk for the lads, especially given our non-existent record away to the pride of south west Lahndahn.

Anyone know remaining fixtures for both ?

I think the whole country would prefer Bradford to stay up over the Norwegians. Coincidentaly there is a piece on the subject on MY NTLSPORTS NEWS ROUNDUP, it might look a bit funny as it's normaly in a pop up window.

I'm kinda for Bradford as well.....Wimbledon used to be the underdog team that just about everyone wanted to do well but they've lost it under Olsen....

Mind you, if Wimbledon go down then it's less tickets (and one less London meet up!) for us next season :((

Come on Bradford its only about 60 miles from me! A nice away trip. I have to plum for the Northern clubs anyawy ;o)

Olsens Gone according to Sporting Life :- OLSEN LEAVES WIMBLEDON

Manager Egil Olsen has left Wimbledon and Terry Burton has been appointed in temporary charge until end of season, Wimbledon skipper Kenny Cunningham has confirmed.

We may lose Wimbledon, but at least we've gained Charlton for that all-important London humiliation and piss-up.

I've always backed the underdog, but never Wimbledon, hated them. But I just moved to down the road from Plough Lane, and went for a wander around the derelict stadium (!) last week, and found I had a soft spot and a tear in the eye. Saw Newcastle get finally relegated with mathmatic certainty there in 1989. Remembered the cold wet wednesday night when the buses from the Toon, having spent 9 hours on the road, finally rolled in with nine minutes left, the mags got off, received a standing ovation, before getting back on ten minutes later for another 6 hours of tarmac watching. Saw Vinnie Jones grab Gazza by the balls. Saw a bloke do the biggest arc-of-piss ever, over a terrace full of fellow mags. Then on Saturday, The Sun did a bleeding heart story on the state of Wimbledon, the delapidated Plough Lane, with John Fashanu posing for pix and going on about the wonderful days of the Crazy Gang, Denis Wise, Vinny Jones etc. ...and in a flash my soft spot hardened. Die you b*std**ds!!! Give me Bradford, Charlton, Man City, Ipswich, Barnsley, Birmingham, Huddersfield or Wolves any day. (and three of your finest points while you're there please).

Prior to this season, I'd probably have wanted the Wombles to stay up. But with the changes at board and management, I'm afraid I couldn't give a toss about them. Besides, I'm looking forward to Top-Tosser Rodney "Plonker" Marsh eat his words, hat and shave his heed!

Oh yes I'd forgotten about that....I can't abide Marsh and would therefore love to see him eat his hat!!

Come on Bradford!!!!!!!!

Wimbledon are dire to watch and their kit is ugly. Then again, so is Bradford's. But at least Bradford have some fighting spirit, and better looking players to ogle when the footy gets tedious. ;-))

Anyway, we've got to avenge our loss at Bradford, and Charlton should give us our first London win next season, so Wombles won't be a miss at all for me.

Oh yeah....I forgot that Bradford are better looking....how silly of me!!! ;))

I take it your talking about Lee Sharpe again?!?!

-- Anonymous, May 01, 2000

Hmm..haven't noticed him. I'm thinking more of Saunders, McCall and Clarke :-)

You don't look for much in a man then ;)

Well I do look beyond the male equivalent of big tatas if that's what you mean. ;-)

Of course with Olsen getting the boot, Wombles will probably rally and manage to stay up anyway. Only to be even more dire next season.

I've always had a soft spot for the Dons and will be sad to see them go. I would also fear for their future. Despite a "Boys Own" history over the last 25 years they have not been able to build a large fan base (presumably the locals continue to support Heath) and it is quite possible they could become a 2nd division side.

I'm old enough to remember their amazing draw with Leeds and the penalty save by Dickie Guy. They were subsequently elected to the league (no automatic promotion in those days) and climbed all the way up to the top. As I say "Boys Own" stuff. If you read it in a comic you would scoff that it was too fanciful.

I've also admired their policy of spotting value players in the lower divisions and making stars of a number of them. I don't know if Kinnear was the main architect of this strategy but they sure need him back, together with the old crazy gang spirit.

I wish them well with no disrespect for Bradford who have battled hard and deserve their fighting chance of escaping the drop.

But Jonno, that was in the "good old days" when the Wombles were the Crazy Gang, with Sam Hamman, Joe Kinnear and Gentle Vinnie. I too had a soft spot for them, but now there are no heroes left like in those days.

I've always had a soft spot for Wimbledon as well.......it's that bit at the corner of Hackney Marshes where the rainwater drains off too...yeah,....it gets really nice and soft....then the Womble tw@ts can sink in it!

Defo for Bradford on this one.

The main difference is, as far as I can see, if Bradford go down, they will bang around in the first division for a couple of years, come back up, go back down, bang around in the first division for a few more years come up, go down etc etc etc. With Wimbledon, if they go down this season, most of their 'good' players willleave, they will go into terminal freefall and in about three years time, they will be a Conference League team again.

The fairy tale ride was good while it lasted, but the bubble has burst, now watch it sink.

;0)

Hackney Marshes ITK ? That would be more the turf of the mighty Orient you're thinking about there mate, pride of East Cockneyland, along with the dog stadium and the Fray Bentos factory (at least until, to my eternal shame, I helped flog the pies off to the Yanks at Campbells and shut the place down.) Back to the Wombles, I'd definitely be glad to see the back of 'em. And they can leave us Euell & Cort in exchange for some of our chaff while they're at it. Anybody worth picking up from Bradford if they do get the chop ? Nah not really. At a stretch, maybe just that young lad up front whose name escapes me ?
