the canon elph the flash wont close

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I bought your canon elph with auto pop up flash. needless to say it just stopped closing I'm shure canon is not in the business of riping people off? However when I returned it to the store the sales person informed me that there was nothing anyone could do for me. He said that from what he knew, canon knew of the problem but there was nothing canon would do about it. thats why canon change the auto pop up flash to a manual slide out flash. I find it a little sad that your company (if what the sales person sad is true) would produce a great little camera and not stand behind it!

Philip,

Check out the posts in this thread http://www.deja.com/dnquery.xp? ST=MS&QRY=cannon+elph+problems&svcclass=dnold&DBS=2 for a possible solution. I have the same problem with my Elph. I contacted Canon and told them the flash problem was a well-known design flaw, and I had read that others had their Elphs (Elves?) repaired by Canon at no charge, even though out of warranty. They informed me to send the camera in, and I would be advised of their findings and charges, if any. I haven't done so yet, however.

The address they gave me is:

Canon U.S.A., Inc. 100 Jamesburg Road Jamesburg, NJ 08831

Phone: (732)521-7007

Depending on your location, they may recommend a different Service Center. Also, I received this info several months ago, and it may have changed.

Good luck!

I too have a disfunctional Canon Elph. Mine will close the flash, but I have to open it manualy. Thanks for the info, Duane. I just bought a Nikon CP 950 so the Elph will get sent in.
