How did you meet your best or closest friend?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Neurotica : One Thread

I related the story of Sean. I met Lenore in a roundabout way through the Sac BBS scene. I hated her the first time I saw her.

There are a couple friends I'd love to get in contact with. My oldest friend Melissa for example, I've known her for over 20 years. I'm pretty sure she's living the hippy life up in Eureka.

So how did you meet your best friend? Or is there anyone you wish you could fi

Well, I really have two best friends as well. I met Kari in Gym class in our freshman year of high school. I hit a softball right to her and broke her finger. You always hurt the ones you love, eh? (=

As for my other best friend? I met Jake through a local BBS. I'd just gone through a string of meeting guys that it didn't work out with and after talking to him for prolly less than a week, I told him that we needed to meet because I really liked him and I wanted to know ASAP if things were going to end after we met. (Nothing was really going on, mind you. But I had absolutely NO contact with the guys before Jake after we met.)

And the rest, they say, is history. (=

Well, I met Lew on the same BBS I met you and Pnchy and Stasi on...

And there are a bunch of people I'd like to get in touch with again. My oldest friend is also named Melissa (what's up with that?), and is in grad school of some kind in Southern California. Actually, I'd like to get back in touch with most of the people I was friends with in high school (with a few notable exceptions), but now people have graduated and I have no idea where most of them are. Oh well.

I have never had a best (girl) friend for more than a year. I always end up getting stabbed in the back. In 8th grade, I was "dating" Jon and Morgan was my best friend. Until they started hooking up behind my back. Skip to mid-1998. Christina and I were best friends for almost four years. In the same day, she tried to make me lose my boyfriend and my job (succeeding only at one). Then I became friends with a girl named Laura and we sort of lost touch after she didn't graduate high school on time (and after she said some really nasty things about me to my sister). In December of 1999, at MY New Year's party, at MY house she practically tried to rape my boyfriend. The kicker in that situation is that I didn't even want her at my party, I invited her because a lot of my friends like(d) her and I wanted to be the bigger person.

So anyways my best friend is my boyfriend of almost 2 years and we met on the beach.

I met my best friend Erika our 7th grade year when she smashed me in the face with a vollyball (by accident) and broke my glasses. Then she felt really bad, but I told her it was ok cause I am athletically challenged and things tend to gravitate toward my head when I play sports. We started talking later that week and have been attached at the hip since. My other best friend Mindy and I met in 9th grade when we were freshman and had a class together. We became close after we both showed up at my great-uncle Mikes funeral. Thats when we found out we somewhat related through marriage. She has been with me ever since, she is perfect in every way to me and I plan on spending the rest of my life with her.

I know that my husband is my best friend, but when I think of the word "best friend," I think female person with whom you would share anything in the world. Like, junior high best friend type best friend. And, sad to say, I guess those kind of junior high friendships don't carry on into your 30s, or so it seems. But I think the closest thing I have to a "best friend," for the past year, anyhow, has been Jolene. And I met her at Sprint, when we were both working there as operators for the deaf. I don't really remember the first time we talked, but I do remember sitting around between calls and talking about getting an apartment. She had on a really pretty green or flowered dress. Don't ask me why I remember that.

There is someone I wish I could find... I wrote an entry on it, as a matter of fact. Anyone here know Aaron Carruthers??? Lately, all my old HS friends have been joining classmates.com and comin' out of th wordwork as accountants, engineers, actresses(!), and stuff. Wow. I always thought I was the only good thing to come out of my high school. heh.

I met Matt in college. He was this little straight-edge punk boy and I was a goth party girl...we didn't get along well at first. He thought I was stupid and goofy and I thought he was uptight and stuffy.

Eventually, I calmed down and he loosened up. We started talking occasionally and became really good friends just before graduation. Then I lost him for a couple of years, then we started hanging out together again, and now, two years and a gazillion concerts and late-night phone calls and conversations about books and CDs (and the occasional frustrated argument here and there) he is my best

I was in a chatroom in Geocities' neighboorhood, SoHo. I knew some people from my high school went in there, mostly people I knew, and only a few, but one time there was this girl in there, Bonanza Jellybean. Long story short, we've been best friends for almost 5 years now - and we met online even though we went to the same high school and had many classes right next to each other. We've been through her HS graduation, her going to college, and then her move to Idaho to be with her girlfriend. Now she's my best friend, even though I only see her once every two years or so. I miss Kate!

Hrmmm...well...

One day, while living in Davis, I was on the phone to one of my hacker buddies up in Portland(call compliments of Boeing, Inc. and AT&T). He was stoned, I was drunk and he said "Hey, lets have a con(ference call) tonight!!". Hackers, before www.this.shit.sucks and the Internet and all that krap used to congregate on dial-up BBS's and telephone conferences. Aaaaaanyways, he set up the conf. for like 1am and there were bout 15 of us on there when I jokingly said "Any of you losers as big a loser as me, and live in the Central Valley?". Needless to say, one of the losers said "Yeah, I'm in Elk Grove...". One thing led to another and I gave homey(Captain Hook of Brew Associates) my infoze. We went trashing later that week(another hacker thing to do in the day) and found out that we had a ton of stuff in common. We annoy the shit out of each other, but he's the closest thing I have to a brother to this very day.

And to show just how incestuous Sacramento is, Ed's best friend is Joanna's husbands brother. And didn't you and Joanna date before you met me?

And Bill annoys *everyone* on a daily basis. ;)

I don't think I would say I 'dated' Joanna. I'd say that we took time out of life to mutually discover that we each had the ability to annoy the crap out of each other. :) But it's all good. :D Hrmmm....Sacramento Incest....gagh...almost sounds like an "IRC meets Ricki Lake" sort of thing....
