Sour dough bread starter

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Bread.com FAQ : One Thread

I am looking for a recipe for a sourdough bread "starter". I had a "starter" a few years ago that about twice a week you would add instant mashed potatoes, sugar& warm water to. Several hours after you "feed" the "starter" you just took out 1 cup of the "starter" and added the other ingredients to make delicious sourdough bread. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Sonia,

Have you been able to locate this starter? I also have had this receipe in the past but now I need to know how to start the starter. If you have had any luck please pass it along.

Thanks,

Sonia,

Found it!! Here it is. I have also located other bread starters on internet that are very similar to this one (with potato flakes). I'll forward these WEB sites to you later. Anyway here we go and good luck!

STARTER FOR SOURDOUGH BREAD:

1 2oz. pack yeast (usually comes in 3pk packages) 1 cup potato flakes 2 tablespoons sugar 3 cups water

Mix well and store in a glass jar with cheesecloth over top. Leave on counter overnite. Watch for it to start foaming up (may have to leave it longer than overnite). Place in refrigerator for 1 day. Then start regular feeding.

If you need the receipe for feeding or making the bread let me know. I've got that and will send it to you.

Thanks,

Mike
