its because of the life, and enviroment that Edgar Allen Poe grew up in. Its, also the fact that many negative things happened in his life, so negative things appear in his book.

Poe has put so many negatice metaphors in his works due to his life, the death of his wife and many other horrible things that have happened to him and I've even heard he pretended to be insane just so he can feel a change in his life, but that's all bullshit
