Update on Review for Minolta Dimage Elite ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

This is a follow up to my earlier posting from approx 6 weeks ago.

Somebody replied reporting that a review of the Minolta Dimage Elite film scanner may be posted on this site shortly. Is there any update on when this is likely to appear (if at all bearing in mind its similarity to the Dimage Scan Speed)?

Many Thanks

Martin

I4ve been using the Scan Elite for a few weeks and I like it. As far as I know, the biggest difference between the Elite and Speed is the software, including the ICE technology. I have not tried the Speed Scan, but I have the Dual and the Elite far surpasses the Scan Dual. The only review I have seen is at http://www.zdnet.com/products/stories/reviews/0,4161,2449666,00.html

I took the plunge and bought a Dimage Scan Elite 5400 yesterday. Initial impressions with this scanner are very good. I'm using this scanner with Photoshop CS in 16-bit linear mode; each scan takes abot 8 minutes at 5400dpi resolution with ICE, and the resulting quality is excellent. So far I have been scanning slides - mostly Fuji Velvia 100F, and this scanner really seems to extract the maximum amount of colour off the slide. One thing to point out is that this scanner has two 16-bit modes - for plain 16-bit mode, the colour profile is not too far from no colour management - but for 16-bit linear mode it is a looong way. It's therefore vital to pick the right ICC file... so if youre using software that doesn't offer full colour management, you might not want to use 16-bit linear mode. I couldn't get the bundled Photoshop Elements to work properly with 16-bit linear for this reason. CS handles it just fine.
