CANBERRA (April 27) XINHUA - Eight workers Thursday were injured in an explosion and fire at a substation at Orange in the central west of the New South Wales state in southeast Australia, emergency services said.

The explosion occurred at the Lords Place substation soon after 2 p.m. (local time), a fire brigade spokesman said.

There was no immediate report of the cause of the explosion. Two of the eight workers sustained burns in the explosion and the other six were treated for smoke inhalation, an ambulance spokesman said.

Fire fighters used carbon dioxide gas to fight the blaze. A brigade spokesman said parts of Orange would be without power for several hours.
