Nance,

Edgar Allan Poe died on Sunday, October 7, 1849 at 5:00 a.m., in the Washington College Hospital. Mr. Poes remains were removed for interment on October 9, 1849 to the burial lot that held David Poe, Edgars grandfather. The lot is in the Presbyterian Cemetery, known today as Westminster Burying Ground, on the corner of Green and Fayette Streets in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1875, Edgars remains were relocated to the southeastern corner of the cemetery and a monument was installed. Today the church and cemetery is owned by the Law School of the University of Maryland and is maintained by the Westminster Preservation Trust.

Attending the dedication of the monument was Walt Whitman (Poet), Neilson Poe (Edgars cousin) and John H. B. Latrobe, the man that award a literary prize to Poe in 1833 from the Baltimore Saturday Visitor. In 1885, his beloved wife, Virginia who died on January 30, 1847, was moved from New York and reburied with Edgar and his Dearest Ma, Maria Clemm, Edgars aunt and the mother of Virginia.
