Digital product photography for small business

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Is there a digital camera system that bridges the gap between consumer cameras and high-end equipment? May there is a consumer camera that would work? This would be for small product photography. Products are about 2x3x4 inches in size. Output would be 300dpi files for a commercial printer. Max image size might be up to 8.5x11, but usually around 4x6. Need to be able to do life-size macros. Perspective control can be done in Photoshop. 24 to 36 bit would probably be OK.

I have used by Nikon 950 to shoot a variety of VERY small things, go to zoomable photos at:

for examples. Most of the images were actually taken at higher resolution that appear in the zoomable shots. If you want to know more e-mail me Michael

I've done some macro photography with the Olympus C-200Z and have had excellent results. There are two ways this is addressed on this model: a macro mode setting inside the camera, and a macro lens. I've personally had better results with a 5X macro than the internal settings. Hope this helps!
