Today is my husband's birthday, and also our first wedding anniversary. My husband is a "strong like Bull" kind of man - the one that people always think of to help them move couches, and that sort of thing. But he has this very, very gentle way about him that just knocks me out - he rescues bunnies for the House Rabbit Society, and presently we have 3 of these adorable little minature bunnies, about the size of you hands, and when I watch him playing with them, or talking to them, it just about makes my heart melt.

Also, he is just the most supportive and loving person I have ever met. He doesn't play to a hidden agenda with anyone, and he doesn't gossip and he never whines about anything, ever.

And when I ask him to pay attention to me, he does. And when I need to be a Poor Baby, he lets me. And he brings me presents all the time, for no specific reason. And we laugh all the time. All the time. And the Ninja Turtles completely went downhill when he stopped doing their comic book. He is wonderfully talented.

Oh, and sexy as hell.

One Pamie. One special Pamie. One Pamie to be with, to joke with, have coke with. One Pamie. That's the way it should be.

-- Anonymous, April 25, 2000

One Jeff,

One steady Jeff, one Jeff to be with, forever and ever.

One Jeff.

That's the way it should be.

That's the way it should be-e-e.

My honey, Don, is an amazing guy. He is truly the kindest person I know. Most people consider him the "strong silent" type but he has a lot of goofball going on inside. He affects me in ways no one else ever has and I'll never be able to get anough of him.

My best friend, Nancy, is everything a friend should be: honest, loyal, compassionate, funny and so perfect that she doesn't even realize that she is.

-- Anonymous, April 25, 2000

Chuy: He is real and honest and funny as shit. And he is very patient with people who know a lot less about certain things than he does. To the point of not killing them when they say very stupid things.

Oh, and he vomits Volkswagens. That kicks ass.

(Ok, I'm going to say some nice things and then I want somebody to say some nice things about me - because I need it, my brothers. I am in CRISIS MODE at work. One of those times when, if my red pencil was to break or someone came in and asked me if they could do anything for me, I could cry. Fucking TEARS at any moment! So, show me love. Look, yes, whatever, you don't really know me - just come up with some shit, ok? Aren't you all writers? Jesus.)

I have got to give a shout out to Pamie, first off. Always keeps it real like Holyfield, she does. And I enjoy the hell out of it.

Next, much love to my friends Tito, LBJ, Jewels, The Bean and Betty. Not since The Spice Girls have there ever been a more kick ass group of chicks as we. They have known me for nearly 15 years and never once complained about those nicknames. We all live in different cities now but, I would honestly fly to wherever one of them was and throw myself on the train tracks if need be.

To My Mother the Saint, a charter member of the global army of martyrs: you rock like a hurricane.

I could go on - I have great people. They do great things.

Some quick ones:

Sonya: you're the best. At everything. Always.

Shaun: my soulmate and hero and a close second to my Mother in the Who Wants to Be Al's Biggest Fan contest.

The New Boy who Lives In Practically-Mexico: how weird is it that I found you the way I did? The tightness of your science could blind just about anybody, I think. You have made quite an impression. Dallas will be the better for it after you visit.

Allison...ahhh, where do I begin?

Allison has helped pull me through some of the toughest times. She's endured my tears, my frustrations, my temper tantrums, my rants about relationships...and she does it all with such amazing patience! Honestly, I think God did everyone a favor by putting her on the planet. She is destined to do so many wonderful things.

Some more things about Allison: She always is so thoughtful. She sends me cards for no reason at all, just to show me that she cares. She'll argue with me when I'm in the mood to argue, and she takes care of me when I'm sick.

Everyone should have a friend who is as amazing as Allison.

(I did good, yes?)

Hope your day improves, hon. I had one of those last week. They suck.

i have to say something nice about my dearest friend, erin. she lets me come over and crash on her couch sometimes (even when she's sick) without making me say that i hate to sleep in my apt alone. she also lets me go through all of her cool crap, read her mags that i can't afford to subscribe to and lets me ooh and ah over her latest purchase. love the animal-print bag! she's also really great to eat korean food with and seems to really like my kooky husband as a friend, too. that's nice.

Hooray!

Notes to self:

New Best Friend - Katherine. Bake her a cake.

Put on a Chuy Face. (Not a difficult task for me today - isn't he The Maddest Man in America a lot of the time?)

Sew Jeff a superhero costume.

My sister, Kim.

She's beautiful and talented. She takes care of her husband, her two enchanting children, her three cats, and her house and garden. She's gone through the Year From Hell and is still cheerful and positive. She's running her own business.

She was the most supportive person in the world when I was going through my divorce.

She's possessed of a trait I seriously lack, being the sort of woman a man will fall in love with and *stay* in love with. She's generous in spades. She's artistic and should get paid for the gorgeous things she makes.

She rocks. Love ya, Kimmer.

Chuy-bang-bang, Chuy-Chuy-bang-bang
Chuy-Chuy-bang-bang we love you
And- Chuy-
Oh- Chuy
Everywhere we go
On Chuy-Chuy we depend.
Bang-Bang, Chuy-Chuy-bang-bang
Our five-case drinking friend!

(that's not as easy to type as it seems. And "Chuy" now looks like letters that couldn't possibly spell his name.)

my beautiful best friend Carol since 7th grade is courageous and sweet and knows how to make me laugh until I have to double over and cough for like an hour. She can smile even though she is troubled and scared and we really can't help her. She is the best Mom in the world to her two little girls and they love her like the sun. I love her like the sun too.

And did I mention that my wonderful friend Allison bakes cakes for her friends? Yes, people, she is that cool.

Mmmm. Cake.

Ok, I don't know him but:

I feel Chuy, Oh so Chuy, I feel Chuy and witty and bright, And I pity anyone who isn't me tonight.

I feel charming, Oh so charming, It's alarming how Chuy I feel, And so Chuy, that I hardly can believe I'm real.

See the Chuy boy in that mirror there: Who can that attractive boy be? Such a Chuy face, Such a Chuy dress, Such a Chuy smile, Such a Chuy me!

I feel stunning And entrancing, Feel like running and dancing for joy, For I'm Chuy, and I am a pretty Chu-u-y boy!

my boyfriend is the most wonderful person in the entire world. if i am scared, or tired, or upset, he will stay with me and rub my back until i fall asleep. he thinks i am beautiful, and told me if i lost any more weight, he was going to kick my ass. i then complained about gaining, and he said, "i don't care, as long as you don't LOSE weight. i mean, maybe when your butt is hanging down by your shoes, we'll talk, but until then..." he loves me, and isn't afraid to say it, or show it, in front of anyone. he is so smart. he is fluent in english, which makes tings a lot easier, because my italian is not nearly so good as his english. but when i try to speak to him in italian, he will amke an effort to speak back with simple vocab, so i can understand, and he only makes fun of me when he knows i am in the mood for teasing. he and my mom, and my best friend, maeve, from ireland would really have to duke it out over the "Ky's Biggest Fan" award, but i actually think that the three of them would stand around with silly grins and yabber at each other and just share the bloody thing, because they all love each other, as well as me. when i put eye makeup on, he says, "take that bullshit off, you look better without it." when i had to leave him in a train station, and this was to be the last time i saw him for three and a half months, just as the doors were about to close, he said, "here's lookin' at you kid." and then when they were shut, he mouthed, "i love you." he makes me feel safe. he makes me want to actually eat, which no one has been able to do before. he makes me feel beautiful. he makes me feel loved. and i love him with all my heart.

then there's pamie, who always brightens even the grayest of days with her journal. thank you, pamie...

Now for real- my Rosie Posie Puddin-n-Pie and Jessitada! are the best. They know how to tell me exactly what I want to hear and like it came from their own mouths. And they don't mind that I constantly stretch and destroy their names.

-- Anonymous, April 25, 2000

I hope she'll forgive me, but I couldn't skip this opportunity. =)

Katherine--that's right, CiderKat, kecarlson, Grace, however you know her--is my best friend (so Allison, I hope you're prepared to share, wink). No one I've ever known can pull you up and light a fire under your ass like she can. Her laugh is as infectious as her smile, and that voice is sooo sexy it could almost talk you into anything. Of the many blessings I've been fortunate enough to receive over the years, her friendship ranks right up there with Mom's hugs and homemade cake. Mmmmm, cake. =)

I have a big, big hug for you next time I see you, hon. You're the best. =)

-- Anonymous, April 25, 2000

Excellent - my new best friend is a nice lady! And she makes cakes! We can play Easy Bake Oven!

You know, I think one of the nicest things you can say about someone is "His friends LOVE him," or "Her friends adore her like family."

I don't think I have ever heard anyone (except for my Mother) say a bad word about my Father. His friends worship him - they think he's hilarious and they constantly tell old stories about him - like he's alternately their big or little brother. It makes me proud of him that people like him so much.

-- Anonymous, April 25, 2000

I must, first and foremost, mention mom because she is always there for me. I'm able to talk to her like a friend, we help each other out with web design and we sing along to songs together. she can also make me laugh and doesn't mind when my compliments turn into insults by accident sometimes. heh.

next, there's my cousin, lindsey. I am glad that she is my cousin since she is the best pal I could have. we were always very close and whenever I go to ohio we hang out. she's the closest to a sister I will ever have.

and last, there's ethan. even thought we've never met, he knows how to make me smile and laugh when I'm in a bad mood. we can talk for hours and even when we repeat ourselves, it's just nice knowing he's there and cares about my well being. he's the reason I want to try to get over my anxiety. ah.

oh and yes, I'll give a shoutout to pamie, yooo!! your journal makes my day! the science is too tight maan.

-- Anonymous, April 25, 2000

My friend, she is the best. During the last.. uh... 5 years, I was completely friend-less. I would never get phone calls, I would sit still in class and sigh to myself, and if someone would randomly come up to me to chat he would surely leave a few moments later when one of his friends would arrive, and he would not forget to add a yawn- stretch-cough routine. This year, I was enlightened. I don't think anyone knows how is it to feel in this age of mine that someone really likes you for WHO YOU ARE. She doesn't mock me for my scary internet obsession, but she tries to be one too. She listens when I talk about people I like, but doesn't forget to mention herself (it always seemed a bit odd that people only listen but do not talk). She doesn't get mad at me if I forget to call (Senile at a young age) and if I have a problem she detecs it within miles. She will never mock me for embarrassing myself (THAT HAPPENS TOO MUCH!) and will laugh WITH me not AT me. I don't think I would survive any other moment without.

With all the mudslinging and infighting that seems to be going on in journal-land these days, I'd just like to say happy I am to see all these people saying nice things about each other.

Cheesy, but true.

-- Anonymous, April 25, 2000

I have a ton of nice things to say about this guy, but if i said them to him, he'd be scared off. All my friends are sick of hearing about him so this is about the only place I can turn to get them off my chest. Dan is, to put it concisely, the Man. He makes me feel special. When I see him, even for five minutes, I get dizzy for hours afterwards. He makes me laugh. Hard. And a lot. He makes me happy which is really difficult to do. He once told me I was a beautiful woman and that just about killed me. He knows a lot about a lot of things. He's got a conscience. He has a million and one faces and expressions that he makes his own, even if he stole them from someone else. He has this weird Bruce Campbell/Raimi brothers fixation which completely confounds me. If you ever met him, you wouldn't think he was the greatest-looking guy on earth but when you get to know him he gets more attractive by the second. He cares. He listens. He understands. He's volatile. He knows what it's like to be me. I can't think of him without smiling. He kissed me in a way that only happens in movies. He makes me feel alive. His voice is so sexy. He's got this wealth of talent and yet not too big of an ego. He can't stand to be alone. He's creative. He is the Man. The only thing wrong with him is that he's not as crazy for me as I am for him. Life is sad.

Oh, and since everyone else seems to be saying it, and I have to agree since I've read so much about him here, Chuy kicks ass. Pamie should make him the next cute single of the week. If he is single that is.

-Karen

What a great idea :) Well I'm going to say nice things about my two best friends, River and Dave. River I've known for about 8 months, a guy I was dating last year introduced me to him, now I'm no longer on speaking terms with said guy but continually becoming better friends with River. He's got an incredible spirit, one of the most loving and loved people I've ever met. Many people call him best friend. I only knew him a couple of weeks before I was totally pouring out my soul to him; he got me through some of my deepest funks when I was having relationship problems last fall, letting me vent and cry and try to figure things out outloud into the wee hours of the morning. He gives awesome hugs and tells me I'm beautiful and compliments me on my appearance more than anyone I've ever known, always noticing when I'm wearing a new something. And he can always make me laugh and I can always make him laugh which makes me feel great. Love him tons. Other honorary big brother is Dave. I've actually not met Dave in person but have known him online for about a year. He lives in Ireland. When I'm not going to River with my problems (and sometimes even when I am) I'm going to Dave. He's been an endless source of support and comfort and advice but totally without coddling me. We're both completely straight-up with each other, and it's so nice to know he won't bs me and I don't have to bs him. We're also always making each other laugh and, even though sometimes start slacking off a little in emails when one of us starts seeing someone, always make our way back to 2 and 3 emails to each other a week. There are few people in this world that I always feel comfortable with and can tell just about anything to, and these boys are them. Love 'em lots (will have to let them read this sometime I guess :) ).

Thanks to Pamie for making me laugh, making me think, making me reflect on what's important, and making me want to have fun in life. You rock, girl!

Nice things about Michelle who will probably read this: Michelle is a wonderful friend. She is so thoughtful--she made me an Easter basket, neener neener neener. She is beautiful and funny although I don't think she realizes it. She puts up with me talking nonstop about fish and Steve. She is great at keeping secrets. I'm really glad I have her for a friend and a coworker.

The Other Michele: Another great friend. If I ever have a daughter, I will have to name her Michelle (or Michele). Michele never judges me, never says I told you so. She just wants me to be happy and enjoy life. She is always on my side, and my biggest cheerleader. She encourages me at whatever I want to do.

New Boyfriend, Steve: Steve is cute and funny and caring and considerate. He always brings me a small gift when he returns from traveling. He likes to cuddle and gives great hugs. We have an incredible amount of inside jokes and constantly changing nicknames for each other. He is not judgmental or possessive. He makes me laugh so much. He does funny impersonations. He is so quick witted. He could do stand up if he wasn't so shy. I love you man!

To my neighbor Danielle: Thanks for checking on me when my car didn't move for 4 days. You're a cool chick!

To everyone writing nice comments about each other: This is great, it has really put me in a good mood. Good job! Great idea, Pamie!

i have so many nice people in my life, it's kind of scary.
i have my family. my dad, who gets really really mad at me for stupid reasons, and we stomp around glaring at each other and hurt each other's feelings, and then he'll call me at six in the morning from work just to say he's sorry and make sure it's okay. my mom who doesn't laugh at me when i'm covered in flour and i realize i've left the yeast out of the bread. my sister who doesn't speak to me for days, but when i'm sad comes to sleep in my room and stay up all night talking to me.
i have charlotte, who confuses the heck out of me, but i love her. girls are beautiful, but charlotte... charlotte is just gorgeous. she lets me take her picture and play with her hair and even though we often can't really talk about the serious stuff going on in my life, i'd die defending her. 'cause she's charlotte.
and jd, who is possibly the most frustrating person in my life, but he's also gorgeous. it's way too easy to be close to him, and he really needs to get over his ex, but for now he's a great friend and he's says i'm beautiful and doesn't mind that i get really kind of creepy when i've got a bag of licorice to eat.
and roger, who i never see but is really nice.
and God, which may seem kind of weird, but of all the people in my life, he's the one who blesses me most often and most consistently. and we won't even get into all the stuff he puts up with from me. hehe.
and pamie, yay.

The hate mail I received yesterday was unusually polite. Thanks!

-- Anonymous, April 26, 2000

crawling in to try and cheer up...must find place to die...

Ok, so that huge crisis I was having yesterday? The career changing presentation for which I stayed up all night - and by all night I mean that I left my office at 6:30 a.m., went home, took a shower and returned immediately. Cancelled.

So, I would just like to say to the Executive Vice President who cancelled on me: Dude, I love you.

Now yes, I stayed up all night (two nights in a row, actually) and have the thing ready to go - but honestly you guys, I am so tired I cannot even talk without throwing in the f-word. It is like I have lost all sense of what is appropriate. So, I am glad it was called off, giving me at least one more week before I will surely get fired...

More nice things:

My secretary - and today is Secretary's Day so, how appropriate - is so awesome. She has become a great friend and yesterday, when I was in the throes of chaos, she went and got me lunch! And not just any lunch - my favorite smelly caesar salad from the greek deli. People don't get nicer than that!

Pamie is very funny. The essay today about Nathan had me giggling like crazy. And she has a very nice forehead and her face isn't overly long at all. Yay Pamie!

Brian is the most sweetest and wonderful husband in all the world. When the doctor put me on bedrest for the entire weekend for a pregnancy complication that turned out not to be (thank goodness!), he brought me breakfast in bed and took care of me and was just all kinds of helpful. And he's so considerate that he kept me from feeling bad about how hugely preggo I have gotten by gaining weight along with me. Okay, so that wasn't on purpose, but man, if that's not dedication I don't know what is. And he doesn't complain about how I snore at night. He even snores too so I don't feel guilty.

My unborn baby is sweet and wonderful because she doesn't keep me from falling asleep at night and she's only got 39 more days until her due date. Sure, she gave me gestational diabetes, but I guess that's okay because it's forced me to clean up my diet.

Anne plays a mean game of Scrabble. Laura is wonderful and generous and very nice about giving us veggies and fruit and hand-me-down baby stuff, and she put together a lovely baby shower. Roxanne is a great person to eat lunch with. David, Chris, Corey, and Jim are all awesome people for helping me move my office down the hall last week so I wouldn't have to lift anything heavy. I am just surrounded by wonderful, giving people!

We like to bug you, but we fear your wrath.

Oh, you beautiful Chuy!
You great, big, beautiful Chuy!
Let us write our songs about you,

If you ever leave us, how our hearts would ache,
We sing about you, though our voices break...
