Shanghai Launches Computer Security Project

(4/24/2000) China's Ministry of Science and Technology and the Shanghai municipal government recently jointly announced the formal launch of their Shanghai Infoport Security Protection Project, the April 18 Jiefang Ribao (Liberation Daily) reported.

According to the newspaper, the Shanghai Infoport Security Protection Project is an auxiliary project under the municipal government's No. 1 project, the Infoport's principal project, and has been designated a national information security application demonstration project.

The Shanghai Infoport Security Protection System will establish security monitoring systems in the political, economic and cultural sectors. The newspaper reported that it also will research and develop comprehensive monitoring systems for the governments economic information security and network media monitoring systems, as well as for systems that monitor the security of the governments information network.

The project will have applications for network defense, security auditing, anti-virus programs, emergency measures, network supervision and control, intelligent data searches, content grading, security evaluation, intrusion detection, network early warnings, digital electronic certificate authentication, personal joint e-mail solicitation and other areas.

Altogether, the newspaper reported, the project will include three systems, nine application sub-systems and eight key technologies.
