Olympus D460Z step down from D450Z?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Please someone, tell me that the Olympus D460Z digital camera is not a step down from the D450Z.

I have ordered the 460 and have been looking at the reviews for the 450 assuming that 460 would be the same only better.

However, I have seen some very scary posts on the USENET and no reassurance. For instance it seems that the LCD is not as good (60K or so pixels instead of 110K or so pixels on the 450), the ISO rating choices are lower (heard a rumor here that they are in fact the same but the rating numbers are different).

Can anyone who actually owns a 460 confirm or deny any of these rumors? For some reason the only posts on the subject I have seen seem to be from 450 owners who are reacting to published information.

Please - can someone tell me where I can find a real, detailed analysis of the differences between the two cameras - preferrably written by someone actually looking at the two together and not looking at spec sheet of 460 vs the actual 450.

Thanks a lot for any information.

As far as I can tell the Olympus D460 has been altered to reduce the cost the 60k lcd being the most obvious change. The D460 is only an upgrade of the D450 to tackle the much hated icons and menu system used. In the UK the D450 sold as the C920 which had a starting price of #600 when the D460/C960 was anounced the price fell to #400. You can still find a new C920 camera in the UK for around #350. The C960 has been launched at #450 in the UK I cannot find many diferences in the spec sheet other than those you mentioned.

Like you I am keen to find out how the Oly d460 compares to the d450. The best source of practical info was at: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/electronics/ If you browse to the amazon digital camera section you eventually come to a couple of pages of reviews by users of the d460. So far there are only 5 short reviews posted but at least they are by people who own and use the new model. Hope this helps. Gary
