IONS: TOWARD AN INTEGRAL SYSTEM OF HEALING...

While Western medicine is a highly successful explanatory and predictive model, it is grounded--like all such models--in a worldview based on assumptions about the nature of reality. However, the medical systems of many other cultures assume a different basis for reality. Alternative medical practices now widely used in the United States emphasize the need to re-examine our assumptions about the way we model reality: the nature of the body, the meaning of health, and the role of social, psychological, and spiritual factors in human well-being. Our goal is to complement the current biomedical model by introducing thought-provoking questions and alternative ways of thinking that naturally lead to a healthcare system capable of including dimensions of health which are presently neglected.

QUESTION: What do you think is missing in our current Western take on how people heal?
