the Elian case proves the our system of checks and balances post y2k is no longer working properly

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

Read the whole article http://www.law.emory.edu/11circuit/elian1.html It is clear after reading this legal brief that our president has shown a callous disregard for the constitution that he pledged to protect and uphold. He went against the Congress and the Courts in his violation of that families rights. No checks and balances working here.

The Congress has a very sober decision to make on Monday morning about Clinton and Reno's clear violation of the Constitution. Never in our republic's history has there been such an aroguant abuse of power by any Administration.

Either Congress clean up this mess or they will face a massive protests nationwide in the coming days and months and on election day. The community in Florida is furious and is going to shut down Miami Tues with a general strike. People all across this nation our upset with this abuse.

Elian's mother gave her Life the ultimate sacrifice to try and give him a better life, that at the very least should be respected. The father should have been allowed a six month period here to see if asylum would be the right thing to do.

Instead of cowtowing to the world's elite bankers that want Cuba in the fold and are willing to do anything to apease Castro so they shred our constituion to show that they are defacto controllers of this countries policies. The ball is in Congress's lame duck Lap now.

The big picture here is not just the rights of a little 6 year old boy is getting thrashed but an executive branch is acting like a dictatorial power to get it's own way in peace time, which is clearly prohibited by our republic's structure.

This thing needs to have a thoughtful resolution worked out before our country is dragged thru the mud any further. Have the Dad and kid stay until it is settled were all parties have a workable solution that fits and that all rights of each party are respected. Peace and love all and happy easter to all. Pray for them.

Aw, c'mon y2k, read Taz's post a few below and get with the program.

The Cuba-American family had every chance to make this easy on the boy, his father and themselves. But no, they chose to not cooperate..

Janet Reno was criticized roundly for not acting sooner. I, for one, criticized her for kowtowing to the family in Miami.

As Pat said, check out the thread by Taz.

Yet another 'victory' for Bill & Janet and their Commie pals. 'Course it took a herd of Jack Booted Thugs brandishing serious military weapons under the cover of darkness (how appropriate!) to achieve this pre-Easter raid. Funny how the gun- grabbers always wind up showing & using such weapons (WACO & Ruby Ridge?).

No one is safe in this country when such totalitarian tactics are used. The I.N.S. has NEVER used such tactics before under these circumstances.

Let's hope that we can build a consensus in this country to prevent this madness from continuing -- DEFEAT AL-BORE in November...unless you want 4 or 8 more years of this crap. Mr. Internet would give us the same or worse.

DEFEAT AL-GORE and his loony-tune socialist/communist pals.

Hey Mike: you said

"Never in our republic's history has there been such an aroguant abuse of power by any Administration."

You cannot be serious. Did you ever hear of Iran-Contra? Oliver North? How about Lincoln declaring martial law during the civil war?

I am not going to give you a history lesson. You can disagree all you want with what was done, but save the superlatives for something you know something about.

If you really think this is the biggest abuse of power, ya better go back to school.

Defeat:

Are you going to post your political agenda on all the threads today?

Future-- YUP!

-- Yup (Yup@Yup.com), April 24, 2000.

Future-- We've all had to put up with YOUR political agenda for far too long.

-- Time (ForMajor@Change.com), April 24, 2000.

Elian's mother did not give her life so this boy could live here and be respected. She was following her worthless boyfriend, and according to people who knew her, would have followed him anywhere. It could be construed as child endangerment.

You guys aren't near as concerned about Elian as you are about bashing Clinton and Reno.

History Future Shock? I'm not sure they've read any.

-- gilda (jess@listbot.com), April 24, 2000.

Gilda, you have gone to the core of this whole goat fuck. On one side we have the faction that hates our current government and our leaders. On the other side we have the fervent anti-Castro faction. Neither group gives a rats ass about anything but their own agenda. They will exploit any situation to further their efforts and personal gains. In between are the bottom feeders who hope to make some money off this at any risk. BTW, didnt they recently shove that crack whore Aunt into some kind of rehab facility for a couple of weeks? Needed to dry her out for the home stretch and sobered-up her drunken dad at the same time. Getting Elian away from those scumbags and back with his father was way, way overdue.

-- Sifting (through@the.rubble), April 24, 2000.

Hi sifting, Isn't it amazing the quick recovery she made from her exhaustion. How anyone can believe that sleazy, lying bunch of kidnappers is beyond me. And to follow the boy to DC on the same day he left to meet his dad--now the damned fools have become stalkers. MaresAssLaysIt is psycho.

I appreciate your providing your views in a peaceful manner, y2k aware mike. I concur that this was yet another abuse of power by the federal government. I also agree with Futureshock that such abuses are unfortunately not rare, they certainly have occurred with other administrations. It does appear that this adminstration has gotten away from such abuses with relative impunity.

I like our form of government, the political processes need some work to keep the "money" from buying the elections, but I still think it's one of the best. But I concur that this administration has been one of the worst "role model's" ever. As Elians cousin pointed out, but there's something wrong with an adminstration that decry's violence yet wave's a machine gun across a child's face.

As a society, unfortunately we are becoming numb to such violence, it is almost par for the course. We have become overly political, and tend to forgive the biggest of excesses of those we support. The American way is becoming more and more the way of gilda with here "me me me values" and "Sifting" - no respect, just slander, curse, disrespect, rave and rant - no intelligent discussion required. It's easier that way I suppose.

Best wishes,

The reason Fact Fucker is clear,

Crude comments are what they appear.

Required you see,

When speaking to thee,

Cause you are one stupid, thickheaded simpleton that just cant seem to grasp the basic elements of common sense. If you were a farm animal Old Mac would have put you out of your misery a long time ago. Now, dont take this too personally as I am only addressing your online persona. But then you are more than likely an asshole in real life also.
