6) For the rest of my life I will be proud that I played at least some part in closing TimeBomb. Being a burr in Yourdon et. al.'s boot gives me almost as much pleasure/satisfaction as the degree/honors on my wall.

My life is GOOD, OTFR, and I wanted to take a moment to thank you. If you hadn't opened this ~relatively uncensored forum, I know my life couldn't possibly have worked out like this.

I live about an hour from Slide Rock. When I was a kid we used to go up there every chance we got.

This morning I had a rather large Coyote in my back yard. It was pretty brave, too. When I banged on the window it jumped and then took a long look at me trying to decide how much of a threat I was. Fortunately, it then quickly decided to disappear pretty fast. I generally believe in letting nature alone, but draw the line at Coyotes or rattlesnakes in my yard. Not too many outside cats or even dogs around here. The animal judged me correctly. If it hadn't left, I would have made a prompt personal appearance sporting a variety of incentives to aid in convincing it to go elsewhere.

You're cabin idea sounds like a good one. Sedona has some for rent, and I think that there are some up in Flagstaff that you can rent for a few days, too. Where does Mr. Polly live? You should invite him out for a visit.

Yes, of course some of it is de-nile and not wanting to step up to the crow lunch line. But I wonder if some of this type of posting is done by a few for three reasons:

Second, vendors want to keep the "ready market" ready for their next sale items. Notice all the talk about "hey I'm still prepping"....and better keep the preps.....still possible to be bad stuff happen/Y2K problems.... IF they read about other people still buying stuff....they maybe they ahd better do so as welll....just in case.....see....so many are doing it.....not just me....it's ok.....i'm not an oddball....

Plus....wonder if this is to keep the doomers from returning the stuff within the time period they can get a refund?! Isn't there a law you can send something back within 30 days if purchased via mail order? Wonder how many comments are geared to dupe them into keeping their purchases past the point of "no return". Also, maybe they want to keep the audience primed to buy, but need time to put together the next marketing campaign after they figure out see what they should sell to their target amrket at TB2000!

Third, maybe they just want to keep the hit and eyeball count up to sell/market the forumn as best they can. Are banner ads next to "support" their need for a faster server? With others cashing out their Y2K URL/domain names.....maybe they are trying to keep the stats up while they figure how best to position and package the hysterium for sale. Of course this would be a "morphing" and "handing off"....but wonder if this is why Yourdon himself is now on the delete keys.....wanting to keep his "cyber-property" free of litter for those who might want to "buy it".....

SMP says follow the money! I'm wondering if the above or something similar is behind a lot of what "appears" and is deleted at TB2000. I wonder.........not all of them of course....but some of them.....very plausable I think! Got to keep the whole thing going as they best decide how to milk it for whatever's left to milk!

Bet some sysops are being used while the profiteers are figuring out how best to profit form the free labor of some sysops. Sad how the saps are being chumped out of their time and energy while others profit and laugh all the way to the bank...as some have so far.

Know that "abusive" post by me is only at times when I feel people's comments are deserving and I'm "in the mood". I offer no appologies and have no regrets.

First, I think it's good to think of Y2K problems on a spectrum from "show stoppers" to annoyances. The real question is one of impact. As you know, problems happen every day. These problems are fixed. Naturally, companies prefer to maintain a public image of competence. Thus, companies do not issue press releases on the minor problems that occur and are fixed. If a problem occurs that DOES impact it's ability to deliver to external entities, then it DOES inform those external entities. Not reporting minor glitches that have no impact is appropriate, not a massive conspiracy to keep the truth from others. If there is no impact, why should they waste people's time reporting "everything's teh same..but in some back office somewhere something happened that had no effect on our ability to deleiver to you but required some report or invoice to be reprinted"...this would be pathological. And people would rapidly tire of having their time wasted in this manner..especially since there is no difference from what goes on any other day.

As to the "problems" that are thought to show up at week, month, quarter and year end...I don't suspect these will be major. More like the wrong date printed on a report that's suffed into a long row of filing cabinets somewhere but doesn't impact delivery of goods and services. People and businesses go forward when they can as they can. As a customer, do you want to wait untill every last process at every last suplier in the chain on every report heading date is independently tested and verified before you buy something? Of course not. Never been that way and never will be. The point is, businesses are not going to quit and liquidate themselves if some reports have 1900 in the report headings this year! Again, it's a question of relavance and impact -- not perfection.

Keep in mind that we live in a vicarious entertainment culture. While pop icons may go on TV and tell all....companies have better things to do. I think the reporting we have had has been accurate as proved out by the lack of problems this weekend. Some companies did have problems that were quickly fixed...thus no impact...thus no reporting. The key is that this is normal operating procedure. If problems crop up on Monday that warrent reporting, they will be reported. This is where many diverge in opinion. They think a giant cover up is underway. I think reality can put this to a simple test. In a week, we can look back, see what if any fallout there is...and then compare it to the reporting. We can evaluate it to see if it was fair, reasonalble, timely and appropriate. My opinion is that the lack of events this weekend indicates that the "official" reports and mainstream news coverage has NOT BEEN A COVER UP OR BUNCH OF LIES. Anyone claiming otherwise needs to offer objective, conclusive proof - -NOT RUMOR OR UNSUBSTANTIATED GODSSIP -- OR WORSE YET JUST OPINIONS OR THEORIES.

FWIW, I've been a proprammer/analyst for over ten years. Large mainframe mission critical systems for major organizations...I've always been rated at the top of the scale by managers and peers. My last project manager, who was hard driving guy they put on difficult projects hand picked me for his projects. He told me I was the best tester he had ever seen. This means a lot coming from him. My reputation is for being very good and writting code with few if any bugs. In my first job, it got to the point where my user, who was in charge of approving the work as done and complete and adequately tested didn't even bother to look thru my buyoff package because she knew that if I didn't find andything she wasn't going to either. And that my test cases and methodology covered all the bases. I've also been in charge of Y2K testing the mission critical application where I work. Lots of weekends! I had the utmost confidence in it -- and it has worked fine. I expect the same on Monday. I said the above to point out that when I give anopinion or observation from personal experience I do think I've got "room to talk". But I'm NOT a know it all nor claim any universal expertise except for having a good mind I can reason effectively with.

Basically, you are quite welcome to post here -- as is everyone thanks to the generosity of Doc Paulie who supports this board and respects the free speech of others -- as do I. But, that said, if someone comes over here expecting to wrestle with midgets, they will find they have stepped into the wrong ring. Many of us have put up with way too much for way too long from those who refuse to believe anything but TEOTWAWKI is coming, and who believe any positive reports to the contrary are deleiberate lies by the people in charge. Basically, if someone doesn't want any shit then they simply shouldn't start any. With rare exception, lots of folks who get abuse...like I dished out yesterday...are those who come over here from TB2000 claiming to be newbies so as to play their little games longer before getting called for what they are -- doomlits who refuse to face reality and use reason.

I think you will find, as with those who have answered you, that the points you make will be addressed. The question...and the reaction to your post you will get...will be determined to your reply to their response. Do you actually engage in discussion -- or just restate your own beliefs without good agrumentation supported with facts and logic. The main point of contention and disdain many here have for the TB2000 types revolves around this point. Many TB200 types do not engage in discussion. They just restate themselves like cultist chanting. After a few months or years, one does notice! As we here have. They often don't even respond to valid questions -- except with ad hominum attacks or something to muddy the waters so they can live in their delusions without anxiety the truth and facts would produce. If you don't act and discours like them, you won't be treated like them.

I'm too busy to converse more on this matter. Good luck in you "analysis" of Y2K. My high school physics teacher stated that no amount of experimentation can ever prove a theory...but one experiment can disprove it. Each passing day is another experiment that puts personal opinion and theory to the test....for those who observe with their minds and eyes open.

Well, I just got home. I'm a programmer/analyst for a very large organization. I've been one of those who has done lots of remediation, testing and contingency planning and more testing!! I would hate to count the number of future date test I've done over many weekends this last year. I have a VERY inside view!

Well, all went just as I thought it would! Everything appears to be fine. I expect it to continue to be so. My brother is in Moscow, Russia for the rollover. He has a position where he had to monitor the situation over there and report back to DC. I asked him to drop me a line with a status. He did. Here it is:

As of 12:45AM the Embassy reports that all Russian nuclear reactors have safely turned over. Utilities are functioning, no problems reported in the 8 Russian times zones east of Moscow. We are dismissing core staff to go home and I'm out the door in five minutes myself. We reported to DC Headquarters that All is Quiet on the Eastern Front. We will see what tomorrow brings but so far so good.

I just read the above e-mail a few minutes ago. I hadn't checked my mail from work. I had to work New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Got less than two hours sleep between "duty periods". For the record, things went just as I thought they would -- uneventfull! Also, for the record, I didn't prep at all. No food, water, or even extra money -- other than the $88 dollars in my wallet. Had time and money to prep or get cash. Didn't believe there was the slightest reason to do so...so I didn't!

Had nothing but confidence that I would NOT be needing any "preps" for Y2K. Turns out I was right. If you want, go ahead and prep for a natural disaster; don't prep for a non-event like Y2K. The opportunity cost is too high! Your time is too valuable. If your time isn't -- then make it so! Life is short. Live, love...and be what God wants you to be....and don't forget to love...as agape as you can day by day.

As I was wasting a nice opportunity to go out and have fun, I was impressed by all the top quality senior IT people who were putting in the twelve hour shifts so as to leave no "executive backsides uncovered"...er...stone unturned...yeah...that's it I guess.... These people had families. Things they would rather do. But they also exhibit a high degree of dedication and professionalism -- even while knowing their being at work instead of with their loved one(s) was NOT necessary. In essence, duty called -- and they answered.

The reason we didn't have problems and the public pandamonium that would have resulted from it is due to these folks getting the job done IN TIME. I wonder how much if any "mission critical" code people like Yourdon actually fixed? I suspect none. I wonder what people like Yourdon did to "help" Y2K besides fear monger, and squeeze dollars out of it in the various ways he did. I wonder how many of the regulars at TB2000 did any remediation -- real core, major system remediation and testing -- not just some minor PC update stuff. Doubt they actually did much as a group AT ALL. I mean real work -- not busy body/commitee/opinion work. Of course, they do occasionally say a momentarily sincere "thanks" between hate fest at the gubmint, sheeple and pollies...giving lip service...but the only lip service I would care for....oops! This isn't alt.com! Sorry!

Keep in mind that at companies all over the world, many fine, very capable people will be working long hours "just in case" for the next several days. Even though they know the chances of their services being needed for Y2K is very slight to non-exsistent. I think we are collectively in very good hands. I for one plan on staying WITH TWAWKI!! No bunkers or running away from society for me!

One very important point with preping for Y2K -- is that there IS an opportunity cost that is going to increasingly matter in our ever faster paced world of change. By learning 19th century ways of doing thigs, you are spending time, money and energy that could be used to learn today's and tomorrow's technology. This, IMO, is the REAL DOWNSIDE COST OF PREPPING AND BEING A DOOMER! THEY are the ones who are like the frog in the water who slowly boils to death -- as they increasingly become more and more obsolete untill they economically boil to death.

Second, as I retired to my hotel room last night, and checked out the news coverage, I felt a sense of victory seeing so many others out celebrating in the face of fear. Y2K. Terrorist. Whatever. I thought, even if some terrorist sets off a bomb somewhere...what are your chances it would kill you? This is the "crashing airliner" logic. Yes, some do crash, but it's still quite safe statistically.

This made me realize how important it is to actually LIVE LIFE, not worry it away. Or pass up so much of life due to excessive and/or unnecessary worries and fears. As I listen and read about the last century or 1000 years, I detect a common theme: The optimist and those who push forward DO tend to make headway and prosper. Thinking back at how those who go forward, even though they take a chance, end up as a group far ahead of those who stay in their homes, bunkers and caves...afraid to venture out or risk loss...makes one think that if one wants to thrive and prosper, you better not let yourself become inactive or falling behind due to fear, uncertianty and/or doubt. FUD will not lead to a fulfilling live in the years ahead....and that's where we will be spending the rest of our lives!

Go forward. While alive, live.....long...and prosper! And remember..."Don't worry....be happy!". Mr Polly sez so!

I scanned the TB2000 threads included in the above post here. I shake my head that so many "adults" are still spewing their puke about the world ending soon. I noted that many post predicting impending doom were 1-8-2000 post. These people need a mental enema. And a mental exam! And mental HELP!!

The postings from such TB2000 "illuminaries" as Milne, AisA (shithead), ect illustrate how putridly brainwashed and worthless of redeeming efforts many of the TB2000 cult regulars are. As in most areas of life, people will change -- if they ever do -- when they are good and ready for it. And then they will need little if any help from anyone to do so.

I scanned TB2000 a couple of days ago. Noticed over one hundred threads. Noticed that besides the "I was wrong and now feel like an idiot/dupe" type, there didn't seem to be a lot of difference in the subjects of the post. Still post on contrails, the economy about to collapse, ect. Less "in your face we KNOW" tone...but still the same idiotic drivel and puke. Also noticed that the replies from the cult cheering section was still "on key" for them. Stupid, attacking, defending the cult at every meme. PATHETIC!!

Are TB2000 regulars really alien abductees reporting their observations and analysis based on what's going on on ANOTHER PLANET?? From their post....they sure aren't living on this one! And if so, they either need new glasses -- or medication for their delusions.

CPR mentioned how important it was to not even associate with losers; that if you so so enough, they will rub off on you. His statement made me think. I think he is right. At the least, it diverts one's focus from something more productive. Knowing what's out there is valuable...but I can know shit as shit without getting close enough for the stench to reach me. Especially when roses abound in bloom all around us in this wonderful country of ours to enjoy!

When I scanned, I did notice there were hardly any post by "infonaught" Squire sharring every computer burp as a sign of doom to come. Suspect there is some effort to save face. In fact...it is yourself who most needs to ask yourself that question, IMO. I can understand the debate before the rollover. But now? Jan 18th? I'm a programmer/analyst. I've heard the arguments for corrupted data, ect. But I also know they are bogus as far as any predictions of major catastrophies or disruptions. Those who cling to such "hopes" of doom and gloom definitely show that Y2K was never the real issue....it's their hatred of the system. Remember all the rants against "pollies" -- telling them they were going to die, were responsible for the deaths of millions who didn't prep, and called every name in the book? I do. In the face of such rabid doomer vileness, one has three choices. Leave, tolerate it, or respond back. Those choosing to respond back soon find, as I did at TB2000, that reasoned arguments or positions are not well received -- in fact -- are not received at all at TB2000. They are deleted by the "cult guardians" -- or swamped with attacking, distracting, ad hom, and baseless arguments and pathetic attempts at reason. In this environment, I for one do not at all blame someone for replying in like manner at times. I have myself -- it is enjoyable at times. But...it soon resembles wrestling with pigmies -- not much of a challenge. But on occasion....why not? You doomers do ask for -- and deserve it -- and much more.

Look at your board now. Every time a computer hickups you have threads predicting doom...any time now. Then there are the OT post about everything but Y2K. I can't help but think there is a good hearted person in there somewhere -- based on her early on-line personality. Despite her recent terse, content sparse post of late, I do suspect she has lots of innate intelligence. I do suspect she will increasingly become deprogrammed by the reality of Y2K as a non- event....and...with TEOTWAWKI danger ebbing away...come to see the regulars there for who what and how they are....and slowly decide to find something else to fill whatever void TB2000 does for her. I suspect she'll come out of it...but it may take a few months to cast off the dust due to her heavy investment and identification with her "baby" (i.e TB2000) and her "children" (i.e. the regulars there).

While I find many of them and their characteristics QUITE not to my liking...especially those who rail against our society...that gives life and comfort to those "the jungle" would kill....and enables people to live more fullfilling lives rather than just scratch a subsistance living out of the ground...I do wish them God's best...because they are His creatures too.

Why are you stuck on this issue? It's Jan 21st, 2000. HELLLLOOOOOOO!!!!! The coding has been done -- however it was done....you should know there are many ways to skin a cat in programming. Here, we used lots of windowing using year 50 for the breakpoint. Are you interested in wasting time talking about WHAT IF IN 50 YEARS THE CODE IS STILL RUNNING!!!! If you want to talk about different approaches, do so...somewhere programmers interested in one method over another would care...I don't see where it matters much at this point....E-COM and the NET matters more now...Point is, the code has been fixed. Anything missed will show up and GET FIXED WITHOUT BRINGING DOWN SOCIETY...BITR AND ALL THAT JAZZ....GET IT???? OR ARE YOU A DWGI??? BWAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH!!!!!! oh, i do remember him saying something about posting what he did in response to some on the board discussing bartering food for sex post TEOTWAWKI. I think he was against that and asked if you should handcuff her first so she didn't kill you while you were having sex or something. I think he said somewhere that he was trying to get people to think about what they were saying about bartering food for sex and have some compassion and not do that, rather than being serious, best i recall. Then he went on to post several rambling self-conratulatory posts about how he was in such demand as a "Loving Dominant" that women would call him years later and ask for more. When many folks got on his case about it he decided to leave the board.

Uncle Deedah's memory is correct. Also, when "Mr. Polly" got embarassed and left TB2000 for the Debunker's board, he first appeared there, too, with the handle "Loving Dominant". Patricia was the first one on that board whose interest he tried to attract. That's why Laura hates her so much. Yes, Louis and Laura are a match made in heaven (or somewhere a bit warmer, perhaps).
