SmartMedia Memory ????

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am trying to find out if the Delkin memory that I saw for sale at mobshop will be compatible with the C2020 Olympus camera that I plan to buy from them. The memory has a strange string of characters behind it (SSFDC). Does anyone know what this means? Will this media work with the Olympus camera. Also, they have a parallel to Compact flash adapter. Has anyone seen how well this works. I was trying to decide whether to buy that or the flashpath to floppy adapter.

Thanks for any replies.

Smartmedia = SSFDC = Solid State Floppy Disk Card

Of course, I guess it could be:

NOW FOR A SERIOUS MESSAGE:

DON'T buy a CompactFlash reader to use with smartmedia. You need a smartmedia reader... :-) I have a Lexar parallel port based "Digital Film Reader", beware that the model I have is only rated for up to 16MB smartmedia cards. Newer models likely cover a wider range of memory sizes. Check it out before you buy.

Good luck, and have fun shopping.

I use a C2500 Olympus digial and use only Olympus cards so far,so I can't say anything about the other manufactores cards. I do use a Smartmedia reader-writer made by Olyumpus and I also have a Flashpath card adapter but do not like it as well as the SmartPath reader. I find the Smarthpath works much faster when downloading phots to my PC.The reader is USB. I also use a ScanDisk reader for the CampactFlash memory card, since my camera also uses this type of memory card, and it works as well as the Smartmedia reader.
