Janet Reno tried to convince the family to turn Elian until the last second, told them that "time had run out". They knew it was over and called back but she informed them the time was up-once again. It was done in 3 minutes. She put them on hold as the Marshals came to the door. The blame is on the family who thought you are above the law.

You gotta love the media's "take" on the situation, a reporter on MSNBC is talking about the marshals coming in "with guns blazing". If the facts aren't fitting into the picture the best way for their ratings, they "make" the news fit.

Well, the first half of this saga has ended. Now we go into the second half. The media has had a field day so far, now they can pump the method of re-capture of this kid for all it's worth. Just a few moments ago, CNN was showing close ups of the finger of the Marshal on the gun. This was to prove that it was not on the trigger.

I did notice that the man's nails were clean.

Hang on, there's another final half to go.

By the way, if all these Cubans are so all fired Americans, where do they get all the Cuban flags they wave?

The man should have been given his child within days of the little boys arrival into the U.S. It should not have been allowed to get to this point. What a mess. But, the thing to remember here is that just like many situations over the last 8yrs, the presidents solution is to ride in with guns blazed.

my point is that we have the right to act as the most civilized country ever but yet we fail to grasp the power we truly hold as a nation. The power to act with compassion and true justice ....not in the middle of night with a bunch gun toting gorillas...man I am embarrassed... Again I am saying that the problem lies in the bureaucracy and in the agencies involved. the little boy lost his mother!!unless dad is in jail, a mental institute,or a hospital or now member of a contrary political system. 5 MONTHS what the fuck??? but because we've got a government full of "god knows what" that would think twice about not returning this little boy back to his father. We end up looking like a bunch idiots to the rest of the world .come on bill you cant really think that we would believe janet would do something without you do you ??? is that why it took 5 months to solve?

if the cleverest guy in our government comes to the conclusion that the best way to deal with this situation is to send a group of goons to retrieve this boy .....man WE are in trouble.
