resize batched images

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Can anyone help me out. I take many digital images with both a Kodak DC210 and DC290. I like to take them with the highest quality. I then have to resize all my images (450 by 300) in order to get them close to 30 MB for my web site. How can I batch this process. Till now I resize each pic and save it. I can't do this anymore. PhotoShop 5.5 and PaintShop Pro 6 have left me high and dry. Am I missing something? Or is there something else? Something free would be nice. Thanks.

You should have no problem at all batch processing a series of images like this in Photoshop 5.5. It only requires creating an action to perform the operation. Read chapter 16 in your PS manual and this should explain the process, but you are not maximizing your compression in your save for web this way. If you have PS 5.5 then you also have Imageready 2.0 and it's jpg save algorithyms are much better. Also, in saving for the web from Photoshop you should be saving a copy, renaming, and checking the box labeled "exclude non- image data". Photoshop routinely includes non-image data in its files, and this is simply not required information for the web. By excluding this data your file sizes will be up to 10K smaller. Spend some time on the Adobe site in the user-to-user forums. Good luck, Fred
