What is the average life expectancy of the Maine Coon, does it differ by gender? Thank you

Hi Jennifer, average life expectancy of any cat, regardless of gender, is the basically the same and dependent on their care. An in- door only cat with appropriate vet care, etc. can live to an average age of 18 years (although I just read an article about a cat that was 25 years old!). Whereas, an outdoor cat or a cat with access to the outdoors, only lives, on average, 7 years (due to exposure to disease and accidents). A strong argument to keep your cat in-doors at all times!

My cat, Weesie, used to be an 'outside cat". Since she's older now and cannot hear/see as well, we don't let her out anymore. She's 20 years old! Her last vet appointment (a year ago), the vet stated that other than hearing and vision problems, she was in perfect health. I've been blessed- I just wanted to share that some cats do live longer- even if they were outside cats.

Our Maine Coon cat just passed away at the age of 16. He had access to the outdoors his whole life. He never was sick a day in his life until a fast kidney failure hit him.
