Leeds Game - comments?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Anyone watch it? Not a huge amount to say about the game, except that the Ref certainly lost the plot with the two red cards! (:o)

Also, we were suggesting in a previous thread that Galatassary should play this match, and then be thrown out of the competion. Does that idea still stand? Give the Gunners the trophy by default?

Haven`t had a chance to read the papers yet to see what happened after the match - but didn`t like the coin throwing episode.

Yep - I watched it. I agree about the ref. He got carried away in all the pre-match hype. Kewell never touched the cheating Turk (or whatever natioanlity he was - Rumanian??). Top marks to HK tho' for going off in a fairly dignified way.

Points to watch for Sunday? Attack them with speed (small "s"). Watch oot fer Bakke. We shuold probably have a man on him (Hughes?) if he's not already detailed to mark Kewell.

Hit them hard and early. That will knock the stuffing oot o' them. They're not what they used to be - confidence does a lot. I hope we have some left!!

I agree about Kewell - the young lad did the right thing leaving the field with the minimum of fuss - gets brownie points from me for that! (:o)

Hmmm, I'm very uneasy about this whole thing. The Leeds "fans" who have been calling anyone and anything Turkish, "scum", for the last two weeks, decided that if there weren't any Turks to have a go at last night, then they would have a go at the police and the media. Not content with that; they then singularly failed to observe the minute of silence before the game. Seemingly shouting "scum" at the Galatasary players was a more suitable way of showing respect to their murdered fellows!

SMB - I had forgotten about the minutes silence. I must admit my heart sank when I heard shouting. It didn`t do the Leeds fans any favours, and I am sure that the majority of Leeds fans were furious at the culprits. Sad business all round.

Somewhere this morning I read that the ref failed to blow his whistle to signal the start of the silence and at least some of the shouting was people trying to get others to be quiet. Still no excuse if LEeds supporters were calling the Turks 'scum' during that time. And still sad to hear of the attacks on the Turkish bus, and BBC media reps. Just as well for everyone the tie is over. I just wonder if any of the feelings are going to carry over to the final with Arsenal.
