Quickcams

Does anyone know of the cheapest Quickcam-type camera that still takes good quality pictures? It doesn't have to be an actual Quickcam, but you know what I mean.

I have no idea. Here, you can get a webcam (not an actual Quickcam, but yer know what I mean :P) for something like A$89 in Harvey Norman. I was looking through the catalogue the other day, heh.

That's about $55 so you should be able to find one about that price or close to it? I'm not sure. Try looking in big electrical or computer store chains, or even Kmart or Target or whatever? lol. Good luck anyway, hehe.

I don't know if they have them where you live but if you find a good flea market you can get grea hardware for cheap. Here there's the MIT (Mass Institute of Technology) Flea is great for that stuff.

Don't get the QuickCams. I have the VC type, and I'm not happy with it whatsoever, but that's probably because I can't use it with Linux. Stupid Logitech just *had* to buy out Connectix, stopping the open source development type deal they had going. *sigh*.

I recommend the Panasonic EggCam. Higher frame rate, more colour and much faster than any QuickCam could ever hope to be. Expect to pay about $150 for it.

I ended up buying an Intel PC Camera Pro Pack. It was $109 originally, $79 after a rebate. It seems to have better picture quality than the Quickcams, so I figured I was getting a pretty good deal. It comes with a bunch of software - video editing, auto snapshot (for a webcam, if I decide to put one up), etc. I love it. If you're thinking about buying a cam, you should look into this one.

Oh, spiffiness! The pictures and videos look great :P

I worked tonight, and David (this sort of 'geek' (and I use the phrase lovingly) guy who works in the deli who's really really nice) was talking with me about computers and shit, and we talked about webcams. He basically told me don't buy one for less than $180 because those ones in Harvey Norman for like $89 are pure crap. Err, yes. I'll write the name of yours down Katie, and I'll go looking for one. It would help if I had money or something though, eh? :P Toodles.
