NEW DELHI (April 19) XINHUA - Over 90 shops were gutted in a devastating fire in Khoka Market in Manimajra in north India's Punjab state Wednesday morning, local officials said.

Initial surveys suggested over 90 shops were affected by the fire which reportedly started from a short-circuit,

The estimated loss due to the fire is worth 3 million rupees ( 69,767 U.S. dollars), but there was no loss of life, according to the Press Trust of India.

Officials said that over 13 fire brigades were pressed into service and fire tenders were also summoned from nearby towns and air force station.
