We got off lightly

Arsenal are set to submit planning application for their proposed #150million, 60,000-capacity new stadium in October.

They seem to be paying an awful lot for a stadium. I know we had an existing one to make bigger but still! How will they source the finance, I bet they learn a lot from our board on the relocation exercise!

They have to pay for increased transport infrastructure as well. They couldn't stay at Highbury due to the houses nearby.

Isn't there something hindering us doing the same to the other side of the ground. I know the leazes terrace is there.

Leazes Tce is listed and NUFC would not get planning to "spoil" their enjoyment of the surrounding environment which would undoutedly block their sunlight. The Gallogate is another matter altogether, only the Metro stands in our way to extend their.

So it would appear we will never be able to build on the Leazes side, a real shame as it would have been awesome to wrap around the whole way.

No reason why we can't build over the Metro but it will cost more than the current extensions.....all structural work arrghhhhh!

DB I think that terrace is listed, which is why we can flatten it. Arsenal would be down towards KGX station and the majority of that will be for the land which will cost'em a bomb

I still maintain that we could build over Leazes Terrace and make it into a museum. Toon could even buy it and turn it into executive suites/hotel etc.

Anyway, the listed part only covers less than half the East Stand side. Why can't we knock down them poxy old offices at the Strawbeery end of the road?

The Gallowgate could be done, but would need office/hotel to be built to back the new stand. I bet Martin Edwards would do it. On second thoughts, he'd just knock down Leazes Terrace.

It would all be a few years away but imagine the stadium we would have.

We already have the conference facilities so anything else would be hotel based I imagine. If the works have taken the capacity from 36,000 to 52,000 doing the same would raise it to almost 70,000.

Dream, Dream, Dream!!!

Calm down boys.

We would very rarely fill a 60,000 seater stadium. You only have to look at the number of fresh faces last weekend to realise how pissed off some people were. In the good old days at this point of the season the attendances would drop by 20-25% easily. It's only the fact we've paid for the bloody tickets that we're going along.

I think the Metro is very hard to build on top of becaus eof all the structural needs. FF said that the current work was the last for the foreseeable future, and as we all know what Freddie says is a completely factual.

There seemed to be half of Scandanavia there. I'm glad we still appeal to our Viking brethren. Anyone heard from Foreign Bastard recently? What a character! Even gave Rik a run for his money.

This may not be what some of you want to hear but, I think 52,000 is the right size for us.
1) Even in yesteryear the Geordie nation never averaged much over 50 odd thousand per game when more could have went.
2) Telly season tickets will be mightily attractive.
3) To create and sustain a top six premiere team/club is bliddy hard to do.
What I would like to see is a Gallowgate terrace re-introduced with singing and flag-waving and standing in piss n that.

When it comes to the potential size of crowds at St.James's; I honestly believe that the skys's the limit - at least for the next few years. Football is sexy at the moment. Grounds are more or less full all over the place. When it comes to us, I would point to the fact that over 30,000 people have shelled out for season tickets for the past few years. Just imagine the numbers who'd turned up on a pay per game basis. Of course, we all know that football won't stay sexy forever but given a successful team (and we haven't had one domestically in my lifetime) I believe that the crowds we'd get would be enormous. Ask yourselves how many people you know who would like to go to the match but can't? If every season ticket holder knows only one.......I don't need to do the maths for you. As for the ground situation, I saw Fletcher or it may have been someone else from the club, interviewed a few months back and they reckoned that redeveloping the Gallowgate End is a complete non starter. All in all then, I think the potential crowds are mind blowing but to get them in we'd have to move. Another argument altogether.
