start from scratch? your opinion

greenspun.com : LUSENET : wellyeah : One Thread

I've been thinking about this for quite awhile and would like to change the format of my journal and maybe not copy exactly what I write down in my paper journal. I might just quit that soon and focus on one topic and just print out my entries for myself since I'm running out of room in the current paper journal and don't feel like buying a new one. writing manually is hard on my hands. I'm a lazy bum okay?

anyway, please tell me your opinion. I might also make my personal site just a site focused on the journal. what do you think about this? too much like what everyone else does? I just don't know. I have till may to decide when I do the new layout.

this is important and I'd rather not like to make a big mistake. I'm just feeling really strongly about how much I dislike how it is now. thank you.

i think what's most important is how YOU feel about it. it's YOUR site, YOUR journal, YOUR catharsis... you know? if you'd rather focus your personal site on your journal, go for it. whatever makes you happy - it's your site!

yeah you're right lindsay. I just want to make sure people still come since I obviously do it for an audience if I put it on the web. well, okay, it is also the only way I can be consistent with a journal to keep track of what's going on.

thank you for your insight though.

start from scratch? i think this would be a good idea. give you an opportunity to really think about what you're doing, really figure out where you are with what you're doing...

and maybe think of one thing you want to focus on [ie, your journal] and then arrange everything else around that...

just my two cents.

yes, charlie, that's just what I was thinking. I really want to think of a focusing spot since I have just built on from this page since it started in 1997. I never built it from scratch since then. I think that's why I feel like it's in a rut. too much info and confusion of how to organize.

I might still keep the own writings section up, but it won't be a main focus that's for sure. the journal has always been the thing I update the most.

so, yes, I will give this all serious thought over the next couple weeks and hopefully come up with good sketches of how to set it up. yay!

I think the people who visit your site come because of your creativity and unique outlook on life not necessarily the layout. But people like change so go have fun.

alrighty, I took all your advice at hand and sorta made a test type layout: here.

not all of the links are there right now. I need to get cracking on redoing the own writings layout and all the colors...that'll be happening in the next week or so. it should [no promises here] be up by the beginning of may. at least if nothing bad happens or I throw the computer threw the window in a fit of rage if the layout starts to suck..haha.
