It was a cracking game though. As a 'British' team I really would have like them to win, even if they did mug us at Wembley last week, however, the same can not be said about Newton Heath tomorrow night, I will be supporting Real Madrid for that one I think.

With Barca and Valencia already through to play each other in the semi, what about another Spanish side in the other semi, and then two Spanish teams in the final!

Could be fun. Especially as I believe the final in being played in Portugal.....is that right.....does anyone know.....no love lost between Spanish and Portugese.

I'm with you on that one ITK, although I suspect Newton Heath will sneak through tonight :-(

They were so jammy last year and DO NOT deserve to win it again, esp. as Taggart has already claimed that if they do so they will have proved to be better than Busby's 1968 team; Best, Charlton, Law, Stiles, Crerand, et al.

I was gonna post this on a separate thread, but what the hell............

Attack, Attack. Attack Attack Attack. Having watched a thoroughly entertaining match twixt Barca and Chewsee, I have come away with a reinforced belief that the only way to succeed is to attack.

Chewsee went into tonite's game with a 3-1 advantage. How would Barca respond? Credit where credit is due, Van Gaal went in with a very attacking force and eventually won thru, with my oft-tipped Toonster Luis Figo (I wish) being man-of-the-match.

Chewsee played well, but I was sorry to see Babayaro red-carded when that tosser Le Puff was allowed to stay on the pitch. Having been skinned at Wembley, he was little better tonight and cynically chopped a Barca player when clear on goal. God, how I hate the Froggy b@st@rd.

But, back to my original point. Barca went in with one intention. Win. And they stuck at it. And what's more, had Chewsee came away with more than they got, it would have been Wembley all over.

So, what lesson should we learn? We need more attacking power than we have. YBR has to use his contacts and influence. Were it up to me, I'd be after Figo immediately. However, that said, I'd certainly re-inforce the attack. With Yin sidelined for some (how long??) time, we are more exposed than Gav on a nite oot in the Bigg Market. You don't win if you don;t try. Eh, Gav??

Final's in Paris. It was a cracking game, but I wasn't too upset to see a bunch of foreigners beaten by a bunch of foreigners - except for Gian-Luca. It's a pity he's managing Chewsea cos I rate him both as (ex) player and as manager.

That'll teach them for wearing their changed strip in a cynical move to shift more of them if they'd won.

Standing in the local english bar last night with a lad from work who's a Chewsee fan (actually not a bad bloke!) and I decided to apply NUFC logic to their situation....

He was totally confident that Chelsea would win...

I told him before the game that if NUFC were playing then what would happen would be :-

An early goal for the opposition to get us crapping ourselves, the equaliser just before half time (which would put them ahead on aggregate), we then score again (to put us ahead) but really just to torment us into thinking that we might win!, also predicted that they'd take it into extra time and win from there...

He's feeling gutted this morning....boy do I know that feeling well!!

I'm just happy to see that NUFC logic does actually occasionally apply to other teams, makes me feel less like I'm being victimised by a higher power..... :))

The sun has got his hat on...hip hip hip hooray, The sun has got his hat on and he coming out to play...

Hmm if NUFC logic were to apply to newton heath tonight then my prediction for the game would be :-

The Heath go 2-0 by half time (they think it's all over!). Real come back with a goal early in the second half and score a last minute equaliser and go through on away goals...

I hope I'm giving them the kiss of death here! screw all that english teams in Europe stuff.....I want them to suffer like me for a change!!

I watched the chewsea game with a neighbour/mate who's a smashing guy but your architypical Newton Heath fan - born in Wimbledon, living up here and never sees them live. Anyway, he seriously reckoned that most genuine English footy fans would want manure to win tonight.

I hadn't the heart to enlighten him as to the expectations of most genuine English footy fans in that respect.

If Chelsea are considered to be an "English club (sort of)" a remark made because of the lack of English players, shouldn't that then be reversed and shouldn't we all be supporting Real Madrid tonight. As Steve Macmanaman will be playing, there will be as many English players in their team tonight.

Gav, I almost totally agree with you BUT, I genuinely believe that Leeds deserve to get something out of this season; & not just because of what happened in Istanbul.

I must be going soft in my old age. I watched the game (highlights) and wanted Chelsea to win. I was a bit dissapointed that they didn't win , but after the final score 5 - 1 I was a bit dissapointed that there wasn't a Chelsea fan in the same room so that I could take the piss out of him. As for Man U, I want them to get slaughtered tonight. Leeds tommorow, hope they win, not just because of the fans that were killed , but because they've got some cracking good young players, a good manager and an ex customer of mine hopefully trying to score a goal or three. The only thing I'm not keen on about Leeds is they seem to have more fans that are tossers than most other clubs. Mind you there are a lot of canny ones about, suppose it's the same with every club.
