Are VCDs Illegal?

A Video CD is just like a Video Cassete!!! So... if what you do with you VHS is illegal and if you want to do the same with a VCD, then it will be illegal too! The law is the same whatever the media is!

As long as you purchased the original material you can make as many archive copies(copies for your personal use) on whatever media you want. The same goes for material taped from television, radio etc... As long as you are not selling the copies or charging people to watch them you are okay. It is my understanding that you can charge people to make copies of their original material. For example if a person has a record,tape or CD you can charge them for your services to burn a copy to a CD

Ya.. it depends on where did you get them from. Some online VCD stores sell pirated or bootlegs VCD (bad quality) but some .. do sell good quality VCD like www.movieparlour.com where I always purchase my VCD. They do sell good quality and original VCD.
