Super Marian

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Just catching up on EPL highlights of the past 2 weeks. Among them is Marian Pahars' goal against Bradford 2 Saturdays ago. He seems just the answer for our perpetual striker shortage. A backup to Dunc or even rotation with Dunc as they're different types of players. Or even as back up for Shearer so Bobby can give him a rest(note I'm not saying the 'i' word) Wonder how much Soton would want for him and if Bobby would consider him?

Southampton always charge way over the odds for their forwards and with the one noticeable exception they're all pants when they leave look at Davies and Oestenstad. Nope I'd go for Suker (free) and Camara (quick) (as I've said elsewhere) and keep Dunc and wor Alan.

Pahars and Camara are excellent players and would do for me.
Suker is a terrific striker but one that is close to his sell-by date. He also a Croatian - which I'm afraid says 'red for danger' to me - with a big ego, and I doubt he would move to the Toon - especially with WHU interested in him. In addition, he would be looking for assurances about being in the side - couldn't really see him and AS in the same team, or considering the respective ego's, even in the same Club come to think of it.

BTW Ciara, weather's been unbelievable down here today - 4 ins rain. I'm verging on "trench foot"!

Buying Pahars would really hack off all the Saints fans down here so I'm for it!

I'd go for Pahars. Also Camara - surely he must be way down the pecking order now Pool have Heskey and F****r is fit again.

Ooo...to have Dunc and Al, and Pahars and Camara on the bench....I could deal with that! We wouldn't be worrying about where our next goal is going to come from if/when Dunc and/or Al are out. It would also give different tactical options. Somehow I doubt we'll see either of them, but it's nice to dream. :-)

Sorry to hear about the weather down south, Clarky. I would tell you to come up here, but it's turned very cold, cloudy and drizzly.

Nice to see the Pahars bandwagon building. I actually posted about a "Latvian striker" a while ago, before he (I assume it was him) joined the Saints. See, if I could just e-mail Bobby...

Can't understand the enthusiasm for keeping Dunc. Get rid at any price I say and use the money (he is vastly overpaid) far more wisely. Ditto all those other tossers (Silvia, Kets, Marcelino et al): there's no point having a huge wage bill going on players who are never going to play. You need a good squad of 16 to 18 and some youngsters. Finding two strikers and two midfielders for the right price is going to be one of YBR's greatest challenges yet.

Dan 2, Iremember your posting about the Latvian Striker, I have SOME sympathy for you points not all though. I don't fancy Suker, but he scores goals annoyingly.
