Coolpix 990 with a strobe studio lighting?

Re. the use of the 990 with strobes. Please comment on the following quote from an article by Vincent Versace in Digital Camera, April 2000:- "Probably the most profound addition to this camera is manual aperture control .... When you use the strobe bracket designed specifically for the Coolpix system you can PC sync to your strobe system, which, when I do digital photography, is the Dynalite 500XL system. This makes this camera an ideal solution for the film shooter who wants to make the leap to digital but does not want to spend the money to get this functionality." Mr Versace's cover photo is excellent! So can I use my strobes, a flash meter & effective film speed with the 990, as I do with my Nikon FM2?

I assume the strobe bracket he's referring to is the SK-E900 bracket. You will also need a Nikon AS-15 adapter if you want to have a standard PC connector for your studio equipment. I have this setup for my Coolpix 950 and it works fine with standard studio equipment. The problem with the 950 is the lack of apertures. The 990 should take care of that problem.
