35mm slides from digital images

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I know that the digital images stored on my computer can be shown to an audience using a digital (LCD) projector and many of the groups I go to have one. But what if the people who want to see them only have a standard presentation 35mm projector? Is there a way of getting slides from a digital image. People I ask can't tell me. They think its a stupid thing to do but that doesn't help. Are there process houses who do this? Will appreciate any help or advice.

Yes, there is a way to go to 35mm. There used to be plenty of image recorders around that varied in price from $1500 - $5000 (prices in 1992it's been that long since I've had to look at them), and I'm sure they have changed in quality & pricing. i don't know about availability. Also, I know there are still some houses that will give you a slide from a digital image from these recorders. I've paid anywhere from $5 to $8 per slide. A word of caution--these are meant only for projecting--the image quality is very average. Depending on how many presentations you do, the number of slides per presentation and how often you have to change the slides for the presentations, the money you would spend producing the traditional slides could probably buy a decent laptop, presentation program, cables, etc. and rent or buy a portable lcd projector ($4000 - 7000 ?). I'm just glad I no longer have to produce the slides.

If the quality you need is not very high, you could always try taking snaps of your computer screen. Use 1/30th of a second shutter speed and you shouldn't get any banding effects. Just a thought!
