HK stocks plummet on Nasdaq, techs hit hard

HONG KONG, April 17 (Reuters) - Hong Kong stocks tumbled sharply on Monday, with the Hang Seng Index (^HSI - news) punching below the 15,000 level for the first time since January 25 on the back of Nasdaq's Friday sell-off.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index opened at 15,306.05 points, down 5.18 percent or 836.71 points from Friday's close of 16,142.76. But it quickly lost further ground, reaching 14,818.66 - a drop of 8.2 percent or 1,324 points - after two minutes of trade.
