Anyway to hcange the VBV buffer when using hte pansoic Encoder

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

is there a way to manually change the VBV buffer when using the the Pansonic Encoder VCD template? I wonder if it would improve compatibility with stand alone VCD players.

OF course their is, i have to change it in order to make my high rate vcds play right on my dvd player. this is where your problem comes in, in order to change the rate you have to have another template (i use mpeg system) selected other then the normal vcd (ntsc and Pal) template. When a normal vcd template is selected it "locksout" the vbv buffer rate. When you choose another template other then normal vcd it opesn it up so you can change it. Just be sure to check the "manual" box and then to whatever number serves your purpose.

Unfortunately, the encoder won't let me change hte VBV buffer regardless of what template I choose. In the help file it says I cant' change the VBV buffer unless I increase the bitrate to above 1800k. is there a manual way somewhere? Thanks.

nope, unfortunetly that is correct. Unless you do a bitrate higher then 118 the vbv rate is locked. i dont think raising this though will make your vcd more compatible with other vcd players though

Sighhhhhhh

Btw, what value do you use for your higher bitrate mpegs?

i have found upon a lot of testing, for a highrate vcd, set it to "150" no higher(or lower) otherwise it will mess the sound up on a dvd player, although it still would play fine on a PC. Also keep in mind im doing this at a bitrate of 2500, for all i know the vbr rate might have to be increased if you go higher then 2500.

Hmm I've foudn a way to change it through the registry...however teh results are hardlky desirable... sigh.

Anwyay if anyone is interested, just search for the P18 setting in the H_KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Panasonic Wondertainment ... well somewhere in there anyway.
