New User of Digital Cameras

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I want to take up a new hobby. I am interested in the new technology using Digital Cameras(D. C.).

I am interested in knowing what beginners will need to buy to get started. I have a 64 MB of Ram computer with 8.4 GB harddrive. What will a good, average camera cost with 2MB pixel storage, high resolution (I think that's what the D.C. for Dummies stated) and a high resolution printer would cost. Is there any other things that I would require to get started?

Please get back to me. I live in Canada.

Thank you

Gisli

Depends on how much you wish to spend. Typically around 400-700 for a decent 2megapix camera. For example accompany.com had a nikon 950 for sale for around 500 and if you can get one now, there is a further 100 rebate from nikon usa. of course you live in canada so I dont know how nikon canada handles it. I just chose the nikon because of its ability to have some of the features of a film slr camera like aperture priority/manual focus/etc. and it's ability to accept auxilary lenses and filters.. just to keep in mind so you can enjoy learning new tricks you can do with cameras... for printers, you can try an epson printer... the new 870 are quite impressive... most photo quality color printers like the hp photosmart and epson photo are around the 200-500 range..
