I don't know about other places during WWII but we have firends from Armenia who almost starved there. A gold braclet was worth a loaf of bad bread. If TSHTF, I can survive forever. If you showed up with a truck of gold, it would be worth nothing to me but my food, power and heat would be worth any amount of gold to you.
