Elian--more info

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

heard some more interesting info. don't know if the lying mainstream media will ever share this.

supposedly, IF elian goes back to Cuba, his milk ration runs out in just two years, and in a few short years he will be carted off to "school" where he will be indoctrinated and will only be allowed to see his father ONCE A MONTH DURING MOST OF HIS YOUTH!!! MAYBE THOSE CUBAN IMMIGRANTS THAT ARE PROTESTING, KNOW SOMETHING WE DON'T ABOUT LIFE UNDER COMMUNISM.

Where in the lying non-mainstream press did you find this?

-- (retard@but.happy), April 15, 2000.

retard, you mean "where in the press did you find this"?

There's no Pravda in Izvestia, and no Izvestia in Pravda!

-- reader (reader@isthere.anytruth), April 15, 2000.

Another reason that Elian should stay in the U.S.

No, I meant "lying non-mainstream press."

There is no reason to believe that the non-mainstream press is any more honest than the mainstream press.

-- (retard@but.happy), April 15, 2000.

retard,

Aren't both the mainstream press and non-mainstream press included in the set named "press"? The only difference that I see is that the mainstream press is almost always lying and deceiving these days, while some elements of the non-mainstream press are the same, while othernon-mainstream sources are sincere and often provide valuable information. Caveat Lector.

For me, one of the most sacred rights in this country is parental rights. Are we to abduct any child under the age of 18 who visits this country from another in which their are human rights violations. Does anybody really think that they are not human rights violations in this country? Wasn't there a settlement of some sort this week in which the government is paying victims who worked in unsafe conditions in uranium processing plants?

Elian may face a worse fate in Cuba, but he is not guaranteed anything in life here, either. We cannot be the savior to the world; we cannot send the marines into afghanistan and rescue all the woman and children who are abused there-heck, we cannot even stop buying clothes manufactured by children in southeast asia.

For that matter, I want anyone who supports Elian staying here and denying his father his basic parental rights to immediately get rid of any clothing made in a southeast asian country. Do that and come back to this board and let us know how you unequivocably support the right of a child not to grow up in a country where human rights are violated. Short of that, please post here and tell us you have NEVER purchased clothes made in southeast asia.

Elian Fan,

Thank you for the photo, now I really think we should send the little bastard back, and hook me up with his babe cousin instead. Just check out that hand to mouth action!

I have,

Similar thoughts crossed my mind. I wonder what she can do with a fine Cuban cigar. If significant numbers of Cuban-American ladies look like her, maybe a visit to Miami or even Havanna is in order. Lucky Elian! No wonder he wants to stay!!!

-- ElianFan (elfaifan@miami.hereicome), April 15, 2000.

E Fan,

You would enjoy a trip to Cuba. Cuban girls are quite sassy and sexy. Combine that with an average Cuban monthly income of a couple of dollars a month, and, well....

-- I have a (woody@for.his.cousin), April 15, 2000.

I Have,

Don't forget that their "sassy" Latin nature can flip-flop if they get mad at you and you could end up getting a "Bobbit". The price we pay for passion!

-- Flash (flash@flash.hq), April 15, 2000.

FutureShock,

The mother gave up her LIFE to get him to America. She wasn't bringing him here for a "visit", she was bringing him here for FREEDOM.

On the other hand, parental rights are indeed very important. That is what makes this such a tough situation.

Of course, the dad could just defect now that he and his family are on American soil. Then Elian wouldn't have to go back to Cuba, and the dad could have custody.

-- J (Y2J@home.comm), April 15, 2000.

reader,

I see your point. You are right: Main- and non-main- are included in "the press."

I think both are mostly honest.

-- (retard@but.happy), April 15, 2000.

retard -- do you know what that Russian saying translates to?

-- reader (reader@isthere.anytruth), April 15, 2000.

reader:

I don't see a Russian saying.

My Latin is rusty. I first thought you were saying "Let Hannibal the Cannibal beware." Then the dawn. Clever.

-- (retard@but.happy), April 15, 2000.

retard,

Sorry, I wasn't trying to trick you or anything.

I forget which means which, but Pravda supposedly means either "truth" or "news" and Izvestia would mean the other.

So... as the Russians say, "there's no truth in the news, and no news in the truth!"

-- reader (reader@isthere.anytruth?), April 15, 2000.

reader:

Pravda means Truth. Izvestia means News.

The full name of Izvestia is:

Izvestiya Sovetoz Deputatov Trudyashchikhsya SSSR, which means News of the Councils of Working People's Deputies of the U.S.S.R. (Encyclopaedia Britannica On-Line).

The Retard formerly known as Man With Too Much Time on His Hands.

retard-

Thanks! I'm going to file this one away. My apoligies for the vagueness of my last post. I realized after I had clicked Submit that my question was vague from the very beginning. Obviously, you would probably be looking for a quote in the Russian language, where I was thinking of a quote that Russian people say! Unfortunately I took French in high school, instead of Russian. Russian would have been a lot more useful. Anyway, it has a happy ending. I've always liked that one but could never remember which was which!!!
