Did Poe ever lock himself in a room for weeks or months, how bad was his insanity?

Was he taken to Washington College Hospital or Baltimore Charity Hospital ?

Forgive me, but I have just got to ask.... what, specifically, makes you think he was insane? Is it something you heard? Something you read? Is it simply your opinion? On what basis does your assumption rest?

I have never heard or read that Poe "....locked himself in a room for weeks or months." There were periods during his wife's illness when he would refuse to leave her alone and other times when he was ill himself that he avoided going out in public but that is all of which I am aware.

On the afternoon Edgar Allan Poe was found unconscious in Baltimore, he was taken to Washington College Hospital.
