Things Poe wrote for or about someone

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Work of Edgar Allan Poe : One Thread

I am doing a reseach paper about Poe and I think I might focus on the things he wrote about important people in his life. For example he wrote "To Helen" first for Jane Stanard and the second "To Helen" was writen for Sarah Helen Whitman. I also know that "Sonnet-- To My Mother" was written for Mrs. Clemm.

If anyone has any information why he wrote these poems about these people or other poems/short storys he wrote about people he knew please let me know Thanks!!

I believe that Poe wrote a poem called "A Valentine" for someone by the name Frances Sargent Osgood. In the poem, the riddle is that he uses a letter of her name in each line; in the first line, the first letter is "F"; notice Frances starts in "F". In the next line, the second letter is "a"; the second letter in Frances is also "a". Get the idea? That's all I know about at this point. Glad to be of service.
