unlocking monsters

After I reach 6th rank can I unlock every monster or do I have to beat the major 4 firist

No, you have to get a certain monster by going through a bunch of events.

You will not get all the monsters when you get to 6th rank. Scroll down on your screen to the archives. Pick a name of a monster you like. Follow the directions given in a thread that asks how to get that monster. Do this for every monster to get them all.

A quicker way to know how to unlock all species on monsters is to go to the archives and look under Rare Monsters. In there you will find a thread called "How to unlock all 38 monster types Corrected". That will get it done for you and you have all the info in one place. That's what I used to unlock the last 5 or 6 species I had trouble with.
